Things recommended on a dhol

Hi everyone,
I'm getting a new dhol from made of music in Birmingham some time next week.. I want to get a pakki kachi curve barrel... If the shell has more of a curve does it make it louder? Also what dimensions are generally best to have on your shell? Thinking of getting a remo ebony ambassador... Any other things recommended to get?

Recommendations:


Your goal is to get kaali taali as possible, little bit of chitti(only on the outside) is absolutely fine(won't affect the sound at all if all kaali taali on the inside and both sides)


if you want your dhol to sound louder as fuck with deeper bass, here's the dimensions:
Height: 25" or more
Both sides: 13"
Center: 15" (have to calculate diameter or circumference, idk)


Straight barrel:
Height: 25" or more
Dagga side: 14"
Center: 13.5"
Tilli side: 13"


If you want to get remo ambassador, make sure you have internal nuts that goes inside your dhol so that the nuts and bolts don't pull off by angling, I recommend 5 mil drumhead (Remo Emperor Hazy Snare Side, Evans 500, and 10MM Desi Drumhead) or 6 mil drumhead (12MM Desi Drumhead)

Oh by the way, popular combo will be roped on dagga side & bolted on tilli side


Dagga head:
10 mil or more, unbleached goatskin(grey, brown, or something)(male goatskin)(no masala)


Tilli head:
10 mil or less, bleached goatskin(white)(female goatskin)

or

2 mil (Remo Diplomat Hazy Snare Side, and Evans 200) {not recommended}

2.5 mil (5MM Desi Drumhead) {not recommended}

3 mil (Remo Ambassador Hazy Snare Side, Evans 300, and Aquarian Classic Clear Snare Bottom) {not recommended}

3.5 mil (7MM Desi Drumhead) {not recommended}

5 mil (Remo Emperor Hazy Snare Side, Evans 500, and 10MM Desi Drumhead)

6 mil (12MM Desi Drumhead)

7 mil (Aquarian Hi-Frequency)

7.5 mil (Remo Diplomat Clear, and 15MM Desi Drumhead)

10 mil (Remo Ambassador Clear, Evans G1 Clear, and Aquarian Classic Clear)


Make sure you get a professional quality with cheaper price, (no cracks, splits, knots, etc.)


Standard cotton rope is popular as well (1/4" or 5/16" thickness, depending on wood sizes)


Your choice of dhol decorations, dagga, tilli, and strap


10, 11, or 9(whatever you like), either single rope or double rope, triple rope is not recommended(it's little too much)


Take it or not, for your preference, it's mainly your choice, it's up to you

Kaali Taali:
- Inside: (11.5" - 13.5" - 11.5" x 25")(Smooth/Non-grooves)(Masala)(Kaali Taali)(without Chitti on the inside)
- Outside: (12.5" - 14.5" - 12.5" x 24.9")(Standard/Simple Design)(Masala)(Kaali Taali)(Chitti on the outside or without)
- Thickness: 1/2"


Dagga Side:
- Natural Genuine Goatskin (Unbleached)(10 mil)(13")
- Standard Rope (50' length)(5/16" thickness)
- 10 Rings (with any Dhol Decorations)


Tilli Side:
- Desi Plastic Skin (White)(10MM or 12MM)(13")(with Ring)
- 10 Sockets (with Internal Nuts & External Washers)
- 10 Hooks (with Nuts)


Sticks/Beaters:
-Dagga Sticks (Made with Kau Wood)(Rounded on front ends life half sphere)
-Tilli Sticks (made with: Arundo donax) (Rounded on both ends like half sphere)


Others:
- Special Thick Cotton Strap (2 Strings & 1 Ring)
- Hardcase


All simple and standard dhol parts including unbleached goatskin drumhead, kau dagga sticks, and hand carved tilli sticks (Professional quality)


No cracks, splits, or anything poor

I have a mostly kali taali straight barrel from their supplier india (no I will not be giving it out because I don`t want prices at the supplier to go up lol)


but the straight barrel sounds sick and its actually louder than most if not all belly dhols ive come across so far

what I personally prefer for a belly dhol 13x13 and 26-27 length and 3/4 inch thickness


also you can go with ebony but I personally prefer Smooth white ambassador because its more open sounding than the ebony and it holds the tune better than ebony (with ebony the tune always goes too low after a while)

27.4"?! Holy bologna! That's longer than I thought


Never seen 3/4" thickness before, is it either grooves on the inside or smoothed out on the inside?


About 13" on both sides, is 15" on the centre for belly dhol good enough, less, or more?

Thanks guys. Yeah I would get a dhol from India but I'm originally from Pakistan so you know. So how is this : kachi pakki (mainly kali), curved barrel , 13 both sides, 26 length, about 14 in middle, cross roped dagga, mainly unbleached dagga skin, remo ebony and that's it! What's your view?

My personal choice is getting a kachi pakki dhol. Tilli:13", Dhagga: 13.5", Length: 26" . Also you already know im not a big fan of ebony, but my personal favorite head is evans g1 clear, its up to you on what heads you want to use. Idk what the center size should be. But if you follow my steps, your dhol will sound loud and sharp.
