Baba Makhan Shah Lubana is known for it's fights. There's actually been many fights over power.
We now know who's not going to be in the Sikh Day Parade this year :)

It's especially sad to see youth involved in these violent altercations (the younger guy tying his ramaal as he walks in + 2-3 other young guys riled up behind him). It seems the 'next generation' is getting caught up in the same fight over power and money instead of bringing a change to our Gurdwaras.
Agreed. Golaks need to be removed altogether. No money, no greedy leaders. Have the congregation gather the money when the bills come (electricity, etc.). Excess money has to be completely removed to turn Gunda-dwaras back into Gurudwaras
hmm... this is an interesting concept (no golaks)... jw, are there any golak-free gurdwaras anywhere?

This is messed up in so many different ways. Just this past weekend we had the new committee selected @ El Centro Gurudwara (The 2nd oldest Gurudwara in US) and it was in a very peaceful manner. One of the uncle ji was telling me that they have never had elections to choose committee and its always just the names suggested by the older people of the community. I don't see why anyone would so desperately want to be Pardhan or a member unless he has some personal interest.

The one thing i dont understand is that 'how can an individual think of fighting inside the darbaar haal or even creating a such a scene in maharaj di hazoori?'

every individual that took a part in this CHAOS is SICK! it don't matter what their reason was but a person should have a common sense about NOT FIGHTING AT GURUGHARS!

'Rabb eho jahe lokan da kujh jaldi e ilaaz karey! eho jehi janta ik kalank aa sadi Sikh koum teh!'

that has to be the worst part, that you're disrespecting the guru garanth sahib, you can't claim to abide by it if you're disrespecting everything it stands for by fighting in its presence

any service to sikhi/gurudwaras/sikh organizations should be done as seva, nothing more, you're right about the personal interests, thats how everything gets corrupted. people are too selfish, the sad part is, it's been like that in the past, i think in the early days of sikhism "masands" were assigned to areas to collect donations meant for gurudwaras and the khalsa army, but these masands ended up getting greedy and pocketing some of the money, which is why the term has a derogatory connotation today.

I am sure they have found ways to rationalize it. The great evil of religion is you can find ways to commit the most heinous crime and subsequently justify it thru your religious texts. In a religion that prides itself on building strong communities, this is truly a disgusting act. Moving forward, I do think that the sangat can play a strong role by not giving any money to this gurudwara. Nowhere in Sikhism does it say that you have to go to a gurudwara and give money when you bow your head in front of guru granth sahib. Until the management proves itself to be worthy of managing funds and opens up its accounts, there is no point in throwing away your hard earned money.

Bhangra fights have often been brought up on this forum and the consensus seem to be that alcohol is the main cause. I think it plays a part and might be a prominent instigator but I don't think its the main cause. Just as in the gurudwara case, money and alcohol are just symptoms. It has more to do with our cultural values which glorify violence and encourages machoism among other things. Until we address these issues, gurdwara fights and bhangra fights are not gonna stop.

wow our gurdwara here in Poway (san diego, ca area) sends every family who attends the gurdwara regularily a detailed newsletter monthly showing all incurred expenses and donation amounts received for that month. they show target goals and gurdwara news/headlines all in the newsletter as well. its really well organized and very open with everyone, i didnt realize how good we had it here until after reading through this thread!

Someone explain to me why that boy in the front walked in all macho and put on his patka. oh yeah i put on my patka so now it's okay for me to go ahead and fight infront of the granth sahib.

a pure and utter shame to the Sikh community.

Yes, Nanaksari's gurdwara's do not have a golak. but nanaksar gurdwara's also do not have a private committee, they do not have elections and the such. These gurdwaras all come from one funding as an organization. They only accept donations no bheta through a golak.

As far as not having golaks at all at local gurdwaras I don't think that would be reasonable since Golaks bring in alot of income which is needed in keeping a gurdwara running; just like everyone said gurdwara's need to show transparency to keep things going so people know how much is needed and sometimes transparency helps because gurudwara's actually in need of more money will show that need through transparency and that sometimes helps people give an extra 100 or so and keep a gurdwara going.

And if you just show the electricity/mortgage/phone/water/etc bill when it comes in that stops gurdwara's from having extra funds needed for things such as holding a punjabi school, nagar kirtans, guest ragi's and any other miscallaneous expenses such as food when no one takes the langar seva for that certain week.

I was more surprised about the guy in light gray shirt (who was on the left side of this macho guy) he's saying stuff while walking towards the 'raagi jathas' . . . how dumb can a person get? seriously! ???

I heard that both parties are blaming on each other for whatever reasons that they have. Reasons' don't matter! You can have as many reasons you want "but a person should know by all mean that YOU CANNOT FIGHT INSIDE THE DARBAAR HAAL or EVEN AT GURUGHAR." How hard is that to understand?
