Tilak at Hazoor Sahib

So a friend of mine sent me this video of Hazoor Sahib sewa-dars putting tilak on Guruji's Shastars (weapons). The video is not for the faint of heart as it shows a beheading of a goat. If you don't want to see that part skip 0.23-0.28. What transpires after that is pretty mind boggling as sewa-dars take the head inside and put the blood on each Shastar and then on Nishan Sahib. It is pretty disturbing to see such acts being done at not just any Gurdwara but at one of the five Takhts of Sikhs. Wonder what you guys think about it.

Yeahh I've been there, lived in Bombay, it's in Maharastra, a lot of crazy things go on there sad to say. This happens often though the slaughtering of an animal whose blood if sprinkled all over weapons. All kinds of people do rituals, sad to see it happen outside Sikh temples but it's bound to happen eventually, all theoligies degenerate into something that completely undermine it

Weapon worship isn't anything new, people in India have been doing it since Rig Vedic times. The early Sikh armies had generals and commanders who were from the traditional martial classes like Rajputs and Kshatriyas who followed traditions like these all the time and they became integrated within the martial ethos among some groups. I am pretty sure Rehat Maryada prohibits this but I am not sure, anyone know?

this so called "jhatka" is not written in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji anywhere. it is a man made thing. people need to stop "editing" our religion and follow it how it was given to us by our Gurus.

One similar thing that I have heard/read about was when Guru Gobind Singh Ji sacrificed a goat when choosing the panj pyare.
"He selected panjpiare or 5 beloved and devoted ones who were ready to die for him. He called them one by one in a tent where he sacrificed a goat and came out with the sword dripping with blood to show that the 5 devoted ones were killed but later they were taken out from the tent and were declared as the faithful khalsa or pure beings."

I agree Sikhism is one of the few religions in which evryone belived in the same thing. But now we have radhaswamis, the babeh who have their own interpretations, nirankaris, white sikhs only focus on certain parts of the guru granth sahib, ramdassis.

Its a shame to see it happen.

Not to make this thing go offtopic but that is not really true at all, throughout the history of Sikhism there have always been certain group or factions claiming that their traditions and bylaws were the correct ones. Different relatives of the Gurus would often fight amongst themselves and plot against each other for the 'gaddi'. We have had divisions in the community forever.

Instead of condemning the different sects we should see why they feel alienated in the first place to join them. Most of the time it comes down to caste discrimination in the case.

Back to the topic at hand though, I think animal sacrifice is badass so big ups to the dudes at Hazoor Sahib.

im sorry if i offend anyone, but why are people letting those gurudwara folks do this? Shouldn't people be against this, it says so in the guru granth sahib to not hurt any beings, animal or human, and this is happening in our guru's homes, i showed this to my nani and nana and they said people start adding on to the guru granth sahib themselves turning our guru's words into something it shouldn't be. Also she said all babeh nowadays care about is the profits they make off gurudwara's, and even i'm aware of this because the babeh at almost any gurudwareh you see now are rolling up in beamers, lexus, and mercedes. How can they afford that shit, i doubt there pension's paying for it.
Again i'm sorry if i offended anyone but i just had to give my opinion

Totally disgusted by this. I saw this last year and was shocked to see this happen in a place of such high regard. Supposable if you don't "tilak" on Guruji's Shastars because if you don't then they "go looking for blood," I don't think that is any justification however, thats what I was told when I asked my parents. Sadly because of this I don't feel comfortable going to Hazoor Sahib and thats a damn shame. My religion confuses me so much no wonder growing up I hated it- it makes no sense and there are so many contradictions and random rituatals that not all the gudwara's follow ie: some gudwara's have nashan sahib and others don't… why?

I totally understand your opinion, but you shouldnt let peoples ideas influence your thought about religion. I know Gurdwaras in India that people actually give alcohal too. Ive seen with my own eye's at a party a proper Singh with all the 5 k's eating goat meat, and we all hear about the pervert granthis harassing girls. my point is just because PEOPLE tend to screw our religion, we shouldnt care. we should go to the Gurdwara's for our own selves. After all we are trying to connect with God when we go to the Gurdwara, shouldnt care about man made ideas.

Perspective from someone who is pretty learned in these matters:

Serious Bull. All non Punjab gurdwaras are outside the control of SGPC. The local managements still insist on carrying on Hindu rituals. In this case, the blood is used to put a tilak on Guru Gobind Singh's shastars (weapons). The management committee of this takht (Hazoor sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra) is headed by a local govt appointed bureaucrat. The Punjab Sikhs feel helpless politically to change anything at these takhts. Takht Patna Sahib is another major takht where serious antisikh practices are still prevalent and are passionately defended by the locals who run these gurdwaras.

Last year at centenary celebrations at Nanded, some Punjabi sikhs tried to raise opposition to all this but were silenced by the 'authorities'.

Also the issue of this bakra sacrifice is not meat/no meat but more of ritualistic killing and then putting blood on shastars. The local story is that Guru Sahib's weapons need blood every day.
