Woudln't that only give the benefit to the five academy teams in the Toronto area? What about the independent teams out there (if any)..? Would they have a say in the process as well..? The general public of btf..?

that's a good point, what about new teams that may want to join this federation? how will that work, and what say would they have in it

this thread is sure building up a lot of speculation and confusion lol

People are making too many assumptions about this...let it play out...atleast theyre trying to do something proper even though it may have some cons

I believe this will be good as long as the federation sticks together...we all know of sgpd/nj beef in the past...if theyre working together with it then its something... don't judge too quickly

The thought of a group of individuals BANNING something(english) lyrics is inexcusable and indicative of the state of mind of these individuals. That is not "preserving" culture, but rather illustrative of the neurotic tendencies of misguided individuals. Don't try and micro-manage the scene, but let it develop.
No one is gonna be banned for using English lyrics...they will deduct marks on the judging sheet for using them...this comp is made up of leaders from all the academies in gta...they basically want to have more traditional bhangra and a set judging rubric...i was told that the members from each academy was asked to openly discuss any problems they might have with the other teams so that they can get them out of the way and come to a positive attitude towards each other...teams will be banned if they act out of line or cause a commotion at the comps.
essentially the same effect. Why would teams then use english lyrics, if they are going to lose points? They won't, hence indirectly forcing a team to make their mix in a certain manner.

what i have heard is that any team that run professionally can join the fed and bring any issue or any topic that they feel like should be worth discussing.

1. Toronto Bhangra Federation (TBF) is way too close to BTF. If anyone abbreviates it, I'll smack you lol

2. Will the Federation have a standing army? This has been the major criticism of the UN and NATO, and the Federation has a chance to right this.

3. I have concerns about this, but I sincerely wish you luck in fixing the Toronto bhangra circuit. It's in need of repair.

its not really that much of a federation that was made , it is more of judging rubric that was made and will be used at every competition in toronto
dunno if bhangra nation will use it

i believe this federation is made up of all the major academies here. However, i do agree with some of the previous concerns. Regarding the equality between those teams represented on the council and the remaining teams. Whatever let it play out and we'll see what happens.

i'm sorry but this is an AWFUL idea. does noone else here think it is unbelievable that ANYONE has the AUDACITY to try and define the path through which a FORM OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION is channeled? you can only dance a certain way to partake in our world/our scene? It's bullshit, and its elitist. Do you think that by eliminating teams that are outside of this defined rubric of dancing, you're going to conserve the culture? fuck no, you're going to make it stagnant. How will the "invention" of moves work? how will things EVOLVE! say someone decides that teams need to be 24 members with 4 people per color, this change will be prevented by the RULES OF THE CIRCUIT! It's okay that people dance as 12 member teams, when bhangra started as 8 with MALES ONLY, but had some other foolishly arrogant people stepped up to establish a criteria of "what is bhangra" about 20 years ago, bhangra would not be HALF of what it is. It is setting boundaries and limitations to creativity and an outside perspective. This will not be upholding "bhangra" as an art form, this will be establishing Toronto dominance as the "appropriate" style of bhangra.

thats all.

Dang this federation stuff seems like NBA, NFL status. I think that it would be legit if they have different conferences where any team can compete at conference competitions and then the teams that place from those sections would go to like a best of the best competition type of thing, instead of teams entering, or being picked, so that we would know what those teams that won will bring to the competitions, instead of a team just submitting a video and the competition hoping they are good, it would guarantee a very competitive and good competition. Thing is there would have to be a lot of competitions, which shouldn't be a problem, but there would have to be a lot of competing teams as well, not just the winning team going to another conference. But that would put a restriction on teams on where they can compete and when they can compete, I don't know. Just a thought. It would be interesting if Bhangra did something like that to add a whole new dimension to competition and it would possibly make teams step up creativity in all categories (live, modern).

Also this federation might put a limitation on teams. What if a new independent team decides to enter competitions but they are just starting out, will they even be able to compete because they won't be as good since they are starting.

If they really want to do this, they should just have a straight up traditional competition, like no modern teams just participating live teams, and then a modern competition strictly no live teams, and then a fusion competition of both live and modern teams. They shouldn't cut points off using English lyrics they should split up competitions like I mentioned. But It's good that they are going to make a set rubric on how to judge but they should make 3 different rubrics based on the the three types of competitions they should hold. Also for the judging, judges from other parts of the country should come out to judge not judges from the hometown competitions because then they might pick the home team which is unfair.

yo all the HATERS need to calm down...

If this is a movement Toronto decides to do good for them...Someone is taking something we love and enjoy and trying to help it grow and build..There is nothing wrong with that...Thats how all these competitions became bigger and better. This is a huge step and could be successful.

Instead of cracking jokes on them...support them if not just don't apply to their competitions.

I think this is a good idea and who knows what this can lead to....best of luck bois

everyone else....LTV

who's making a scene dude? this is a discussion forum and we're DISCUSSING opinions on the Toronto Bhangra Federation (spelled out for you Saleem).

That statement is like saying "lets pass a law, and if it doesnt work out we'll retract it"... no, you debate it out, find any fallacies and shortcomings, modify and then pass it.
