I was left wondering about this and was curious for what everyone thought. Just recently Alex Rodriguez chose the Dominican Republic to play as his home team for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Although born in the United States, his parents were both from the D.R. and that left him the option of choosing which country he would play for. The first WBC saw Alex play for the US which brings me to this....

If having to choose between a birthplace and a place you now live, what choice would you make? I think personally it would be a very difficult for me to make the choice between choosing India and the US when it comes to sports since almost my entire family is from there and how much it has affected my life. This topic is just for discussion, and was just made as it is something that has come up during the Olympics as well.

Thats actually an interesting question because the indian guy on the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team said that he would consider playing for India in future olympics for his category. I think oppourtunity has a lot to do with who you represent. If the opoourtunities and package deal is better in your ancestoral country then why not play for them? I was born/raised here so I don't what it feels like to have ties with two countries. A lot of the NBA players represented their home countries during the olympics and I don't recall there being a big controversy over it. If you feel stronger ties for one country over another you might as well go with your gut.

If I got paid, I'd represent the U.S... If it were a charity thing, I dont mind playing for India.... The only reason athletes come to the U.S. is because of the money...

I would love to play for India was i ever given the chance [probably not gonna happen though lol].
I was born and raised in the U.S., but I still feel a sense of patriotism towards India and no matter who they are competing against in whatever sport, my heart naturally goes out to them. Its sad how atheletes arent supported there, and Indians really arent taken seriously in any sport, excpt for maybe Cricket! :/

I agree..India def. doesn't really get into sports that much...we're more into bio and IT ;D which is the smart way to go i guess. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a desi bobsled team at the 2012 olympics ;)
