you're contradicting yourself there buddy. You wanna tell me that I'm sexist because I told you what teams have girls who are good models for girls doing bhangra, yet you tell the girls on your team that slapping their thigh is unacceptable? Oh really? "bhangra should be done one way regardless of gender". Is that so? Then why make the exception of banning "generally unacceptable" moves? You make no sense.Kanvar said:and to say watchin team X is a perfect example of how a girl should dance is very sexist. you might as well say watchin team Y is a perfect example of how a guy should dance. if everyone danced exactly the same then there wouldnt be anything unique about any team.
bhangra should be done one way regardless of gender. as a captain of a coed team i dont give my girls any special consideration b/c they are girls; except on moves that generally are unacceptable such as slapping your thigh or moves of this sort.
Don't give me this team Y stuff being a perfect example of how guys should dance. Traditionally MEN only did bhangra. Yes, bhangra has evolved and it is now acceptable for girls to do bhangra but there are still certain stipulations to this. As I mentioned before, girls from teams like VCU and 3D do this perfectly. Does it make these girls any less of women because they don't do bhangra like the UBC girlz? Absolutely not.
If everyone danced the same way there wouldn't be anything unique about a team? Are you sure about that? In bhangra we have many steps, many actions, many formations, many bolis, many songs, different vardiyaan, different props, etc. THESE are what make a team unique. There is ONE way to execute these actions and teams have their own variations while still respecting the artform.
