I mean if you can tell the difference between "is obvious" and "seems obvious" then I'm sure that you can see how you quoting a judge saying that the gimmick was "very humbling" is misleading to people who didn't watch the documentary haha

@kinnell....."seemed obvious" vs "obvious"....haha wow....whatever makes you happy man.

@Kush: Nope, unfortunately, Jackson didn't make my top 5.....hopefully headed back to the Midwest! Find out March 17th 8) ......also, send that vid over brah.
I'm writing a letter to elite 8, questioning the validity of the placings due to undeniable insanity of judge Navdeep. When they ask for evidence, I will cite this post, as you placed a bad ass hospital, in the city with the sexiest girls on the planet all looking for a young brown doctor with whom to be "acquainted", outside of your top 5 choices.

EMPIRE SHOULD HAVE WON ELITE 8!

....Lol ill send over a video when theres one worth sending homie.

Thread jacking complete.

lol i'm sorry, why is everyone looking at this gimmick as some sort of selfless, heart warming tribute that somehow dedicated a performance to teams. It was a GIMMICK, something to make their dance stand out. How i saw it? them showing that they could infact do all of the winning elements of ALL the other elite teams. Its a statement of superiority, an attempt at creativity, and a means to winning a competition. The right reasons? If "to win" is considered a right reason, then sure, they did. But lets not call it something its not. just my two cents.
Completely agree. It's hilarious that people/audience members/judges saw the gimmick as something other than a gimmick. I mean, I'm sure VCU Bhangra didn't intend it to be interpreted as anything more than it was, but it was kinda surprising to see judges describe it as "very humbling" when it seems obvious that that wasn't the intention. lol

hahahah apathy for the win!

But seriously, guys... (and by guys, I mean judges at Elite 8 who are not too happy with what I posted) there's nothing wrong with what was said. My opinion is only one of many. As I said, I was just surprised to see a judge openly say that VCU had "a personality of a team that can do that kind of thing, it shows such humility and like willingness to embrace other teams" regarding their gimmick. Just expressing my surprise. Not disdain, not laughter, not satisfaction. Just plain ol' surprise. :)

YAY for the sial koti song. thanks peoples.

Sorry if i came across accusatory pavan, wasnt really trying to be attacking, i just was surprised that this is a prominent view. I wasnt even differentiating judges versus audience members, just spectators on the whole.

but yeah i don't know about it being very humbling.

Nav, you rank Jackson number 1 or what? ;) hahaha

its all good, no worries. anyone know the jhummar songs?

Sorry I know the topic has dragged on now but just a quick note:

VCU went last in the lineup which provided a nice context for bringing out the dancers (i.e. end of the show). In this sense it was a really appealing decision as an audience, but I think it was to the detriment of VCU's routine as the attention became focused on the next team coming out, rather than on the dancing itself. If I'm not mistaken, they dedicated the performance to Anupam (a close friend to many on the team who passed away recently) and all the other Elite 8 teams, so the gimmick was framed as a tribute. Regardless of the intention, it was clearly a gimmick and a means to gain points.

However, I would think more people would be impressed with the non-vcu teams for assisting VCU in the gimmick.....doesn't that seem like the real "sportsmanship" here?

didn't somebody say that it was not in fact dancers from other teams, but "other people" dressed up in their vardiyan? but even so, the fact that teams were willing to lend their vardiyan for the idea definitely suggests cooperation and sportmanship. :) also, if this "somebody" was wrong i have to agree with you Swi. even if vcu wasn't trying to use this gimmick to display sportmanship it was certainly nice for everyone to work together and help out.

it was definitely a cute idea..but i also agree with people who say it detracted from their performance. and if vcu hadn't gone last i feel like it would have been kinda awkward....
the mix was hot!! khunde idea was cool...jhummar was soooo adorable. but i definitely didnt get a feel for what VCU was by watching this performance (live and in the video). it was not a memorable one in my opinion... it just doesnt seem like the same signature style from last year. sometimes styles evolve slightly but i dont feel like this year it was for the better. ):
