The time has come to apply for the second annual 'Virsa Punjab Da' Bhangra Competition!! The competition is being held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC on February 7th, 2009, and is brought to you by Delta Sigma Iota Fraternity, Inc. and the Sikh Student Association at North Carolina State University. The line-up from what I remember was:

Bankian Naaran
Rice University
Duke
West Virginia
UNC

It was the same day as bhangra fusion so a lot of teams that were initially picked dropped out. The organizers of this competition were absolutely amazing! I believe it was the Sikh Student Association and Delta Sigma Iota who organized it. I think some of the proceeds were donated to a charity as well, I don't remember which one though. Every team had their own liaison, who stayed with them all weekend. Our liaison made sure we had everything we needed, from food to having a place to rehearse, making sure we all got on the shuttle bus to the afterparty and the show. The show started on time, rehearsals were on time. Everything ran smoothly and everyone was extremely nice and helpful. We had a lot of fun. The placings were:

1st-GTA
2nd-Duke

VPD was a great show last year. I highly recommend applying for any teams interested. Everything from the dress rehearsal to the after party was put together very well. The brothers of Delta Sigma Iota were extremely professional and very welcoming. A couple teams did drop out, which is why they switched it to only 2 placings to keep things competitive. The liasons were very helpful, and Amansdeep did a great job organizing the event and giving unique attention to all the teams. The venue last year was great - could have used a little more people in the seats, but I'm sure that won't be a problem this year given last year's success. I've been to Carolina Theater (the venue for this year) before, and it's even better in terms of stage size and capacity. Very respectable and qualified judges. GTA tore up the show last year. It was the first time I had seen a Canadian team live, and they were awesome. Really looking forward to the show again.

I would suggest extending the deadline slightly so that teams can include their Boston Bhangra routine videos into the registration video sent to you. Even a few days would be a great help, and I'm sure many teams would benefit from this extra time.
