My Afghani friends thought it would be funny to freak out the white population of Damascus, Maryland. So they brought me along. It turns out, white people like it too, so we kinda won? Anywho, since 2003 been doin that College THANGGG

Attended Southern Bhangra Stampede in Charlottesville, Virginia. Had fun. Attended Bhangra Blowout in Spring 2005 to cheer for VCU. Had more fun. Nikhil convinced me to try out for VCU Bhangra in Fall 2005. Was selected as an alternate dancer. Then began the real fun...

Wooooo, what a ride!

At a blowout many, many years ago..I think it was early high school for me..my parents were asked to be judges at blowout, I went with them..and definitely saw KJ live as exhibition...just the intro video, changed my life forever.

I can tell you for a fact that most of the old-heads bhangra stories start with KJ. hahahha....watching those dudes live was a powerful experience.

my sister danced for cal poly pomona's bhangra team before the KJ and independent team era. they got into the FIRST bruin bhangra competition ever and about 2 weeks before the comp one of the guys got injured and they needed a quick filler. even though i was 14 or 15 years old at the time, my sister knew i could dance and i was dragged into it. i got the opportunity to dance with a college team and it was an unreal experience and placing 2nd made it that much better! funny thing was, back then i remember Berkeley bhangra coming out with a haystack and manji and it was just totally unheard of at the time. what is now a typical mela scene in a routine was ground breaking then and people went insane for Berkeley! crazy to see how far bhangra has come since then, i miss the rumaals on my hands =P

In High School, as a young gujurati lad, I always danced Hip Hop / Fusion, and the extent of my bhangra knowledge was just Daler Mendhi, Jazzy B, & Sukhshinder Shinda -- I thought Rishi Rich, Jay Sean, & Juggy D. were like some of the best bhangra tracks I ever heard lol -- That's what I expected to dance too when I came to college and tried out with my roommate -- and oh boy, did I not know what I was getting myself into...but fell in love w. the overall essence of it -- the structure of the dance, the vardiyan, the energy, just the whole enchilada ;D

I needed a ride home one day and my friend said she would only if I waited until she finished bhangra practice. So I came and watched until she was finished and I thought it was interesting so I came back a week or so later and watched again (I didn't dare try). The third time I came I gave bhangra a try ( I WAS SO BAD) but eventually I got a lot better and I have been dancing ever since. The best things happen by accident.
