woooooo...hold on PUNJABI culture is not at all influenced by INDIA...miss PIARPREET I don kno which part of punjab u hv seen lately, that made u assume this. INDIA's major religion in HINDUISM so that means INDIA is all about HINDU culture. Whereas Punjab is nt at all influenced by HINDUISM, PUNJAB is for SIKHISM.
I believe you dont know anything about punjabi culture, that is why u r assuming things.
May be you wanted to say punjabi videos are influenced by bollywood crap, but thats only to capture the group of ppl which only watch bollywood, which I believe has started happening coz of the fact that almost every hindi movie now has atleast a song on bhangra/dhol beat.
I would rather suggest u shud stick to your original talk on pervert videos, rather than diverging it to cultural fight.

I APOLOGIZE IF THIS OFFENDED YOU IN ANY WAY. :-X

Oh virk... U r really off... Even tho im not indian and stuff i know a lil bit about sikhism... Prolly more than what ud expect. Im not gonna start argueing with u but if punjab was not influenced by hinduismnit wouldnt he punjab, and sikhism wouldnt be sikhism. I can give u 1000 shabads that refer to hinduism in guru granth sahib itself. The way some people idol gurus images (having gurus images is agaisnt gurbani an against gurus will and we still have them for inspirational purposes), ive see sardarnis doing karva chauth for their husbands (again fasting is agaisnt gurbani if its for devotional purposes) and i can give u so many more... Like the way gurudwaras are and ceremonialnstuff that is rather ritualistic (hinduism influenced a lot when in the 18th-19th century was taken by hindus and they even had murtis in there... I can quote right now cos i have those books in spain, but punjab is india and indont care how much you would like to think its different or independant... But ya... I dont believe in that bhindranwale and that u r different, cos even gurmukhi is derived from sanskrit when guru angad developed it (dev nagri). Even grammar and vocabulary... Pankha=pakha like THAT simple...
I might just be some ignorant gori according to you. But gurus called out to hindus ajd defended hindus and u cant help it that sikhs are influenced ecen today by hinduism (inter cast marriage? Come on that was mentioned by guru gobind singh when he created the khalsa) hahaha like what u said is not good enough cos even guru nanak was hindu.

Back to the bollywood punjabi movies dude they are similar and period. Acting, themes, songs... Different language and a lil bit different cultural values but similar stuff.

I dnt want it to sound like an argument but this is my point of view.

Just to clarify, what exactly do you mean by THAT bhindranwale?

and Sikhism doesn't believe in inter caste marriage, was that what you were trying to say at the end?

and i still believe that India and Punjab are 2 different entities.

The very famous misconception of Guru Nanak Dev Ji following Hinduism. I knew it, its coming. I have clarified this to so many pp...and yet again, you have given the great opportunity.
First off, for me it doesnt matter, if you r gori or kali, hindu or muslim.
I believe we both agree that there exists a supreme power called GOD. Who made you believe this, I am guessing your parents.
There is no doubt, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in a Hindu family, so it is certain his parents followed Hinduism so did he and he had to. He followed Hinduism until he realized that Hinduism is corrupted with caste ism(Vedas preach casteism Asur, Brahmin, Kashtriya all belong to hindu caste sytsem), even I would say, why would GOD create differences among ppl. At this point he separated himself from hinduism.
So if you are considering guru's innocence(a child follows what his/her parents preach) of following hinduism till the point he became mature and had a realization and this makes you conclude that Sikhism evolved from Hinduism, then go ahead.
If his belief of believing in one GOD came from Hinduism(thats what you are thinking), then I would say you are just naive. In that sense(I do not know which religion you are following) should consider yourself a Hindu too. I believe every religion that exists on this earth preaches the existence of GOD. He followed that not hinduism.

Acc to guru granth sahib, GOD is shapeless, has no form, has no name, has no gender. It does not preach murti pooja, because murti pooja defines the shape of god. We, sikhs, do not worship any of our gurus statue, infact u wont even find it anywhere in the world. We respect them and that is why we bow our heads infront of their pictures. Worshiping and respecting are two different things.

Gurmukhi evolved from Brahmi. The Iranians ruled in the Punjab in the 3rd and 4th centuries BC. They brought with them Aramaic script, which helped in the growth of Kharosthi largely used in the Punjab, Gandhar and Sindh between 300 BC and 3rd century AD. But even then Brahmi, which in its development in the Punjab had undergone several changes, was commonly used along with Kharosthi. Hence, in due course, it replaced Kharosthi and became the single script with composite features effected by various local and neighbourly influences. With the growth of literary and cultural activity during the Gupta period (4th and 5th century AD), the Brahmi script improved further and became more expansive and common. And so Guru Angad Dev Ji, improved/created some scripts from Brahmi and introduced Gurmukhi. I think it would be very stupid to relate words to religion.

A true sikh is the one who follows 5 K's according to guru granth sahib. If some women have started fasting that does not conclude Sikhism evolved from Hinduism. They are not suppose to fast, but they are doin because they want to. Acc to Holy BiBle its a sin to have sex before marriage, but ppl do it that does not conclude that ppl who do it belong to hinduism or sikhism or some other religion. Its their choice which part of religion they want to follow.

I am different because I am sikh. I am different not because of Saint Bhindrawala.

FYI:Inter-caste marriage means marriage between two different castes. Sikhism does not support casteism. Caste system has been developed by our very own ignorant, arrogant, uneducated sikhs. Our gurus never supported caste system. THERE EXIST NO LAST NAMES OF OUR GURUS. Vedas preach casteism.

Bollywood movies are crap because all of em are copy of hollywood movies. Punjabi movies are not influenced from hinduism, movies are made to entertain not to preach religion.

PS: T-Pardesi please stop using this "drinking a girl's milk and all". The milk hes drinking has not been squeezed out of girl's boobs.

MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT MEANT TO PREACH. I AM A LIBERAL SOUL AND I AM PROUD OF IT.

Oh almighty virk guru jee your kirpa is a bakshish and i wuld be in darkness without it. Thanx for enlighten me your naam will always be in my mind. Your divine highness made me born again closer and closer toyour lotus feet.

Seriously... Its not only funny u assume i dont know this, but its even funnier that u mention the kakars when the most important one and the only innate one has met a pair of scissors and not your spiritual wisdom.

Discussion about sikhi is over. Its not healthy for either parties. U can critisize my bhangra ignorance but u cant take my faith away from me, for as unknowledgable u think i might be.

Holy crap dude that's not what I meant at all... jeez i freakin blushed when I read that!! That was WAY off and that thought never crossed my mind! I was shocked u lashed at me for that and accused me of that being what I was inferring... I meant the sweetness of when a girl brings a man milk and he drinks it... nothing to do with breast milk at all!! That is gross AND DEF VULGAR and unacceptable... Who the H*ll would do that?? I bring my fiance drink and food all the time and it feels very sweet for me to watch him to drink it and eat it and enjoy it. One of the biggest ways I feel a woman shows her affection, at least for me, is through the food she prepares for her family. And "stop using.."? I only said it once and it was with the regards to serving a man and enjoying the fact that he enjoys it. It's a very intimate moment between a man and a woman... very special... I was chatting with PP earlier on IM and I had to cut her off cuz my fiance was coming home soon and I make him chaa every evening when he comes home from work. I give him the chaa with the same adoration that I was refering too.. We take it together with some snack and it is a very special moment of the day for us... relax!!! Ay Carumba!!
lol....hey its all cool...it ws kinda joke..i think i forgot to add a smiley at the end..so tk a chill pill...

But you're the one putting your faith in question by saying Sikhism is some form of a Hinduism hybrid.

Buddhism also stems from Hinduism, as Siddharta was hindu, but they are VERY different religions. Sure ppl who are "Bhuddists" in India will also participate in a Hindu custom here or there because that religion is in the majority and Religion at times can dictate culture. But in the end to say Buddhism and Hinduism is one in the same is ignorant and offensive to either party. Same as Islam, Christianity and Judaism which all stem from the Holy Scripture. There are a number of beliefs in all three religions that are in line, but in the end they are DIFFERENT religions. To tell a Jew he is no different than a Christian is offensive.

Personally my family doesn't practice any Hindu customs or rituals, like Karva Chaudh or what ever else you mentioned- nor do we worship or idolize anything or anyone- but we have Sikh family friends who do like to participate in those customs, not because they are Hindu customs, not because they are trying to write them off as Sikh customs (NO ONE has ever falsely said "Oh Karva Chaud is Sikh... Apa Sikha vi es rassam nu man de ah"), They do it because they either find it a fun thing to participate in OR they PERSONALLY feel a special connection to certain non Sikh rituals which they have the right to connect with and participate in. God gives us free will, even if in the end it is NOT a Sikh ritual.

Some rituals can be Punjabi customs that are not Sikh by religion NOR are they practiced in all states/regions of India. Karva Chaudh for example (and some one correct me if I am wrong) is a North Indian/Punjabi-Delhi regional type ritual stemming from a North Indian Hindu practice. South Indian Hindus do not celebrate Karva Chaudh as a South Indian ritual. And with that said MAJORITY of PUNJABI rituals and customs are different to the rest of India and because majority of Punjab is Sikh, A LOT (not all) of what Punjabi Sikhs celebrate/participate in is different than the rest of India- it's a sub culture within a culture. Just like India is NOTHING like the majority of Asia, geographically we are still "Asian". Punjab is very different than India, but Geographically we are still "Indian".

If certain families dabble in a Hindu (and for that matter, even Muslim) ritual in Punjab- let them. Waheguru isn't shaking his head ready to punish anyone. And if some Sikh families house Hindu idols in their home, that's okay too- sometimes these idols find their way to your home and as my Grandmother says "Even if it is not in the manner of your belief system, you never turn God away" aka don't toss the idols away or give them back ... thus why my very religious, Sikhni Nani Ma has a cross with Jesus crucified on it placed next to a porcelain Buddha. :) Does she bow down and pray to them , no, but to her they are special gifts which she refuses to get rid of. (And if anyone questioned her as a true Sikh, I would hit them. Smile.)

To further that point, Sikhs in the west... We too are influenced by the cultures we are in. America is a predominantly Christian country. Every December, I put up a tree, decorate the house, wrap tons of presents and play Christmas Carols (even Christian ones). Christmas is THE Christian Holiday which slowly turned into a "western" holiday and is now a Hallmark Holiday. We celebrate. But we're not all of a sudden Christian or turning our backs on Sikhism. It is a popular celebration in America and we have fun with it.

And in the end- in EVERY religion, only the truly pious follow their religion to a tee. For those that dont, theyre not diluting their religion by participating in other religious traditions.

I understand you weren't trying to offend anyone, but it was offensive. You have experienced places like Amritsar and Delhi- Delhi is not Punjab, even if it is heavily populated with Sikhs. Amritsar is probably one of the biggest "religion/culture melting pots" in Punjab where you find majority of the religious and cultural diversity. Most other parts of Punjab are homes to true blooded Punjabis and Sikhs who 9/10 times do NOT participate in traditions or rituals that are not native to Punjab. [/SIZE]
