Oh virk... U r really off... Even tho im not indian and stuff i know a lil bit about sikhism... Prolly more than what ud expect. Im not gonna start argueing with u but if punjab was not influenced by hinduismnit wouldnt he punjab, and sikhism wouldnt be sikhism. I can give u 1000 shabads that refer to hinduism in guru granth sahib itself. The way some people idol gurus images (having gurus images is agaisnt gurbani an against gurus will and we still have them for inspirational purposes), ive see sardarnis doing karva chauth for their husbands (again fasting is agaisnt gurbani if its for devotional purposes) and i can give u so many more... Like the way gurudwaras are and ceremonialnstuff that is rather ritualistic (hinduism influenced a lot when in the 18th-19th century was taken by hindus and they even had murtis in there... I can quote right now cos i have those books in spain, but punjab is india and indont care how much you would like to think its different or independant... But ya... I dont believe in that bhindranwale and that u r different, cos even gurmukhi is derived from sanskrit when guru angad developed it (dev nagri). Even grammar and vocabulary... Pankha=pakha like THAT simple...
I might just be some ignorant gori according to you. But gurus called out to hindus ajd defended hindus and u cant help it that sikhs are influenced ecen today by hinduism (inter cast marriage? Come on that was mentioned by guru gobind singh when he created the khalsa) hahaha like what u said is not good enough cos even guru nanak was hindu.
Back to the bollywood punjabi movies dude they are similar and period. Acting, themes, songs... Different language and a lil bit different cultural values but similar stuff.
I dnt want it to sound like an argument but this is my point of view.
The very famous misconception of Guru Nanak Dev Ji following Hinduism. I knew it, its coming. I have clarified this to so many pp...and yet again, you have given the great opportunity.
First off, for me it doesnt matter, if you r gori or kali, hindu or muslim.
I believe we both agree that there exists a supreme power called GOD. Who made you believe this, I am guessing your parents.
There is no doubt, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in a Hindu family, so it is certain his parents followed Hinduism so did he and he had to. He followed Hinduism until he realized that Hinduism is corrupted with caste ism(Vedas preach casteism Asur, Brahmin, Kashtriya all belong to hindu caste sytsem), even I would say, why would GOD create differences among ppl. At this point he separated himself from hinduism.
So if you are considering guru's innocence(a child follows what his/her parents preach) of following hinduism till the point he became mature and had a realization and this makes you conclude that Sikhism evolved from Hinduism, then go ahead.
If his belief of believing in one GOD came from Hinduism(thats what you are thinking), then I would say you are just naive. In that sense(I do not know which religion you are following) should consider yourself a Hindu too. I believe every religion that exists on this earth preaches the existence of GOD. He followed that not hinduism.
Acc to guru granth sahib, GOD is shapeless, has no form, has no name, has no gender. It does not preach murti pooja, because murti pooja defines the shape of god. We, sikhs, do not worship any of our gurus statue, infact u wont even find it anywhere in the world. We respect them and that is why we bow our heads infront of their pictures. Worshiping and respecting are two different things.
Gurmukhi evolved from Brahmi. The Iranians ruled in the Punjab in the 3rd and 4th centuries BC. They brought with them Aramaic script, which helped in the growth of Kharosthi largely used in the Punjab, Gandhar and Sindh between 300 BC and 3rd century AD. But even then Brahmi, which in its development in the Punjab had undergone several changes, was commonly used along with Kharosthi. Hence, in due course, it replaced Kharosthi and became the single script with composite features effected by various local and neighbourly influences. With the growth of literary and cultural activity during the Gupta period (4th and 5th century AD), the Brahmi script improved further and became more expansive and common. And so Guru Angad Dev Ji, improved/created some scripts from Brahmi and introduced Gurmukhi. I think it would be very stupid to relate words to religion.
A true sikh is the one who follows 5 K's according to guru granth sahib. If some women have started fasting that does not conclude Sikhism evolved from Hinduism. They are not suppose to fast, but they are doin because they want to. Acc to Holy BiBle its a sin to have sex before marriage, but ppl do it that does not conclude that ppl who do it belong to hinduism or sikhism or some other religion. Its their choice which part of religion they want to follow.
I am different because I am sikh. I am different not because of Saint Bhindrawala.
FYI:Inter-caste marriage means marriage between two different castes. Sikhism does not support casteism. Caste system has been developed by our very own ignorant, arrogant, uneducated sikhs. Our gurus never supported caste system. THERE EXIST NO LAST NAMES OF OUR GURUS. Vedas preach casteism.
Bollywood movies are crap because all of em are copy of hollywood movies. Punjabi movies are not influenced from hinduism, movies are made to entertain not to preach religion.
PS: T-Pardesi please stop using this "drinking a girl's milk and all". The milk hes drinking has not been squeezed out of girl's boobs.
MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT MEANT TO PREACH. I AM A LIBERAL SOUL AND I AM PROUD OF IT.
