Actually, you can use normal splits and see great results. As long as you eat right, and get a good number of calories in. 2,3,even 4 day splits will do wonders for you(not pointing you out, but you in general) if people would actually do the exercises, eat right, and stop worrying about the need to take supplements. Stick to compound movements and Olympic lifts and you'll get strong.

You are right, alot of novices don't realize the nutrition/rest aspect of it. I still think normal beginner person would best be served on a 3x a week full body routine until they stop putting on mass at a great rate. I have known guys go from 140 to 180 within a few months with just squats, deadlifts, bench press, o-press and some pullups and dips thrown in to give more work to their arms. It gets them into good habits and helps put on mass more evenly.

They ate like crazy too though, like probably 4000 calories a day but their bodyfat didn't go above 14 or 15 percent. I saw similar results on a few dudes who did upper/lower splits but they would make one day heavy and one day medium because they were already somewhat experienced lifters and made gains better that way.

Back on topic, who saw the ESPN Magazine Body Issue this week? The Ping Pong chick would get it. mmmhmm.

Well said. When i was lifting and doing cardio, I needed a min of 3600 calories just to gain lean mass. we should have a workout/nutrition thread.
