The only way you get better is by playing. Gigs however are the worst in terms of helping you become better. At gigs you tend to lose form, you tend to take short cuts on the proper bols of whatever beat you are playing and you tend to smack the dhol rather than strike. Always remember not to...
Quick shout out to neet, I haven't really seen many dholis have the balls to play to music with a mic. I would love to see more of that in the circuit. I've always felt a good dholi has always been neglected and not really appreciated as much. Neet really held it down. Just an overall badass ;)
Yeah i do mean the second one, and if it doesn't sound right, try switching the sides and see how it sounds, you just gotta take the heads off and switch em, 10 minute fix probably
Oh okay, so clearly the one stretched is going to be the tilli head and the other side is going to be the dugga. those types of drums are tricky because its very hard to actually see what is what and you just have to go based on ear at that point
if the drum is built properly you can tell which side is which by the thickness of the wood on either side, usually the bass side is thicker and the treble thinner. Also, you can look at the barrel itself, on most of my drums, i've noticed that the bass side is shorter and the treble is longer...

In all honesty wether its performing With Ru or performing with Richie for R.U.D.E and a band, overpowering the sound system has always been a problem that causes me alot of stress. Sometimes when theres tech time, i may get lazy and the sound system has the proper power to balance...
Appreciate the shout out babes but i don't deserve to even be close to this thread let alone this list hahaha. Also, aside from everyone that was listed (agreed with everything Richie said), big shout out to Jaskaran Kora, Nana's little brother Gurpreet, Rahul Singh and Gaurav Sharma from SGPD...
Fast Beat.... Ah Ni Kuriyeh.... Boliyaan .... Gujrati Taal.... Hip Hop Kit.... These aren't even real names haha and the "gujrati" beat... aka garba taal isn't played right. plus chaal is a beat, everything else ontop of that is a variation... Also "boliyaan chaal" wouldn't you play the tilli...
Damn richie, you talkin like these niggas out here lookin for a relationship hahaha, but hell yeah can't wait to get started on that barrel, its probably going to be one of the sickest drums around here, all bullshit aside im glad we're housemates next year, better lock that bad boy away when...
TAKE THE MASALA OFF, i've never been a fan of using masala on skins to make it sound deeper.... ever. A properly treated drum skin can sound better than any masala skin any day. scrape all of it off, soak it for a while, scrape the rest off (the stain will never leave so don't bother) and then...
Nagi is a great dhol that beginners move onto. If done properly a nagi sounds and looks amazing. Go straight to patiala and get it from there. Best way to do it.
A friend of mine recently has bought dhol.etc from the old owner who couldn't keep up with his orders.... it may take some time but if you could get their quailty dhols in no time.... meanwhile all their accessories are in full stock, just picked up some stuff from there last week
