Shout out to Howie and crew for amazing turnaround, I asked for a single saap and got it within a week. This is like the amazon prime of bhangra props.
This is definitely something that judges, especially newer ones, need to do. Going through each little part of a routine that was liked or not liked takes a ton of time, and potentially opens judges up for possible criticism if they remember something wrong. It’s also impossible to do so in the...
VCU @ BBC 2008 wasn’t a screw job, BBC favored modern bhangra a lot more back then and Empire was at the top of their game. VCU def got screwed over @ BBC 2009 though. Agree with Ankhile @ WBBC and NYPD @ Bell 2014.
Learn how to do other teams' choreo and try to pick up their style. Do that with a bunch of segments from various teams that you love, and pick and choose different styles you'd like to adopt for different moves. Then see how you can improve those moves and make a style of your own.
Couple of quick thoughts: A lot of your dancers seem to bend their backs and lean forward throughout the routine, especially during the shikke segment. Part of it is because you guys tucked your kainthey into your vests; not having that phuman at your back kinda exaggerates it, but imo you need...
Also ditto to what SRK said about the kato segment. I've mentioned this a few times to teams while judging, putting in a kato segment in the middle of the routine doesn't mean anything unless you're doing something interesting with it, and this is a great example of a segment that was an...
Great routine, I think I would've had this over Furteelay by just a hair on the basis of set difficulty and style. A lot of the set was thematically similar to what we've seen from NJ warriors in the past, but I love that stuff so w/e. I also didn't see the differences in execution that others...
Congrats on the placings!
I watched the Burgh video alone because that's the competition I'm more familiar with, having competed and judged there a number of times. I think the strengths of the routine are jhummar and the ending segment, choreography/hype were great there. I don't quite...
I'm so glad that some people still know what they're doing in this circuit.
Amazing execution, amazing choreography, I would've given you full marks for both of those. The only thing that could elevate your performances even more is figuring out more innovative formations. The most interesting...
I have several thoughts about this, and I'm also going to play devil's advocate here for a bit. I totally get the frustration that comes from working so hard on a routine, putting countless hours into training and set creation, just to receive less than adequate respect or recognition...
First off, you guys really seem to like Skrillex, huh?
The good:
-Execution is for the most part really good, and choreo complexity is definitely there.
-You do a great job of framing exciting moments, which is definitely important for getting the crowd and judges into your performance
The...
If you aren't counting direct spinoffs, gotta be VCU:
Pyare Putt Ankhiley
Mitar Albeleyan Da
Lalkaare Sheran De
DCMPAA
Joshiley Jawan
ESA
Tune Squad
DCBC (kinda, bunch of the older vcu girls were on it at one point or another)
First off congrats on a successful year, I'm glad to see that the team is still alive and well! If there's something UVA's maintained over the past several years, it's a commitment to strong, folk choreography, and I'm proud to see that our legacy's continuing.
Here are some critiques that I...
You're applying objective scores to subjective criteria. It's not always perfect. I'm all for doing away with rubrics though, the necessity of 5 bullshit points to something like an Elite 8 gimmick was always lost on me.
