Maybe passion is the wrong word, but I feel US college teams in particular have something lacking compared to other teams on the circuit, here or abroad. Maybe it's because most of the members are starting to learn about bhangra, or as Swi said the talent is diluted, but I feel a serious lack of...
I wouldn't put too much stock into that, things changed here pretty rapidly too. Look at US sets from 2006-2007 versus sets from 2009-2010 and you'll see a huge difference in style and form. Back in 2007, lots of co-ed teams still had gidha segments in the middle of the routine and they would...
IMO, the UK scene has really benefitted from watching youtube videos of the top tier teams in North America. UK sets (especially like the ones at WBBC) now have great, complex choreography and great formations, and the teams really emphasize great form, but the one thing I don't see from the UK...
Great performance, this is exactly how I would try to make a set if I was still on a coed team. Great form, great choreography, great formations. Only thing I had in mind for you guys was to keep the Juvenile song as the instrumental for the end of your saap segment as well, I liked it better...
Very solid first effort into live bhangra. I'm not as well versed in live bhangra, but here are some critiques that may help out anyway:
-One of the biggest differences between live bhangra and dancing to a mix is that absolutely everyone needs to look the same when going live, both in style...
Faisan, if wbbc is using harjot's camera for a replay, make sure you get one that is a top view instead of a front view. While his videos are great to watch, the majority of them are front views that don't give a proper view of formations.
And in general, someone needs to make a list of judges...
This discussion of the philosophy of judging is great, but it doesn't mean much to competitions who don't know who those judges are. Someone should make a list or ranking of judges, the best ones will obviously have all of the aforementioned attributes.
I'm the judge who wasn't affiliated with aeg, if anyone on Virsa has any questions, feel free to PM me. I still have a recording of commentary I was making while watching the set if that makes things more transparent for you guys (lost the paper I gave you to put your email address on). And AEG...
Great performance, everyone danced so much more in sync here than they did at Burgh. If you guys had this kind of performance at Burgh, I would've placed you in a heartbeat.
At Burgh I gave most teams a score between 3-5. I never gave a 6 because none of the teams brought the most difficult set that I had ever seen. Overall, that one score didn't really matter too much because going into the judges meeting I had a pretty clear idea of who had more difficult sets and...
Well then do you have it sectioned off any further? Like if a team has incredibly intricate choreo but lackluster formations, or vice versa, how might that be accounted in the category? I hate going off of points, but is there a max value for either choreo or formations? I ask this because I...
That depends on what you consider cool stuff. It's all relative to what a particular judge's preferences are. The difference between 6 years ago and now is in who is doing the judging.
How do you quantify this? This is a subjective score, not an objective one, because set difficulty is relative to both the difficulties of other routines at a given competition and the skill level of the judge. At Bhangra in the Burgh, the rubric had 6 points for set difficulty, and I scored...
Re: Re: NJ Warriors Warriors @ BAB 2014
Not to jump down your throat, but NJ ALWAYS has people that walk through sets. See Elite 8 2010, 2011, Tdot 2011, Jashan 2012, and even this past BBC set. It's usually because the set difficulty level is always so high. I know what you're saying here...
