Nah man, he was saying that the way many teams make choreography these days, they do moves in such a random fashion that it corrupts the value of each individual step. You're right, trying to discern what each variation on each step is doesn't matter, as long as it looks good and flows well, but...
Honestly, when I'm watching routines I can tell what moves flow well together or what variations on moves look good (and while most of the time my opinion doesn't matter, when I'm judging it does). I agree with Ankur, there are plenty of times when I see teams just stick random jhummar steps...
First off, lol at ^^^
Few people understand what it means to make a set where each segment has purpose. It's not about doing some crazy idea for the sake of breaking the mold, that just leads to stupid stuff that usually doesn't make sense. It's about making choreography that shows that you...
I'm gonna try to post a more detailed review of the comp later, because having attended this show 6 times in the last 8 years, I've seen a lot of change from how the comp was run in previous years. I agree about the length of the time that was allowed for judges to speak, and it's as Mariam...
Keep your butt on your heels, use your calves to bounce, keep your back straight. Don't go into it like you're sitting into a chair, that'll cause undue stress on your knees and fatigue the quads.
Re: Bhangra All-Stars Sydney (BASS) @ Bhangra Down Under 2015 - SECOND PLACE
Loved the routine. I could definitely see the Toronto influences, especially in shikke/jhummar/ending segments. Execution is definitely improved since WBBC too. Your next step forward is probably figuring out what...
Honestly, it's not even about having everyone look the same, which is something I think a lot of teams don't get these days. Some of your team looked a bit stiff at times, whereas the red jodi looked like they were flowing from one set of moves to the next. Work on getting that level of control...
This was sick, I loved the choreo in the segment before the last song. If the rest of the team can get to the level of control the reds have, then this team will have no problem cleaning up every competition you go to.
I don't know, there were actually decent answers back in 2008, people who listed many different people, and ones not on their own teams. Maybe it should be a "make an all star bhangra team" type thread instead.
Or w/e, let the circle jerk continue, who really cares?
7 years ago there was a thread about a 'Bhangra draft' with the following prompt:
"I was just thinking the other day with someone, and I don't know if this is already been talked about, but if bhangra was to have a draft, who would you take with the first overall pick? You can pick anyone...
I don't understand why so many west coast teams do these kinds of gimmicks, I don't think they add anything to a set. My team would've gotten annoyed with making even one of those signs and we would've scrapped it in favor of better choreo.
This was sick, reminds me of panj sets from 2009/2010 (which was 5 years ago, holy shit). Probably the best all girls set I've seen this year aside from that TAG live set.
Hey everyone,
I was a judge at Windy City Bhangra this past weekend, which was an interesting experience to say the least. If any competing team would like further feedback or explanations of judging decisions, please feel free to PM me. Also, a friend of mine took videos of the following teams...
Some general notes on form:
-Whenever you're dancing, make sure that you fully extend arms/legs, touch feet to the ground, or bring your knees up exactly to each beat. I could see a lot of people rushing steps and there were a lot of times where most of the team didn't look synced up to the...
Good routine, and congrats on the first place!
I'll focus my critiques on the execution aspect. You have good folk choreo with enough SGPD type moves to keep things interesting, but you guys don't have the folk execution they have to make it all look natural. Focus on getting everyone...
