My $900(bought in 2005) Dell is far superior to any Apple computer I've ever seen or played around with... People buy Apple's because its the "IN" thing right now... It's a matter of time before viruses start showing up for Apple's and patches won't be found for months... My girlfriend just bought the Mac Book Pro, it's a beautiful computer and looks very fancy, but it doesn't do anything that my Dell can't... And that sh*t costs $1700... Pretty expensive for something that lacks substance...

Re: MAC or PC?

Alright this has been beaten to death. The summary (at least in as objective eyes as I can have):

- Macs are very overpriced when it comes to equivalent hardware. You are paying quite a premium for the OS.
- The OS likely is superior to Vista. Windows 7 is a big improvement, so I dont know what the answer is there.
- Macs are inherently less susceptible to viruses and attacks because they are such a small market share that most hackers don't code for them. They are Unix based so that is a small advantage too
- The only time when Macs are definitely worth the premium is if you regularly do audio/video editing!

Which MAC did you get? Specs? I'm thinking about finally making the switch over, I've had it with PCs.

uhm what are your dell specs? cuz if u got dell specs same as the mac specs for 900 then i will make fun of my roomate very much cuz he couldnt find a dell for cheaper wit same specs! he got the dell xps but customized it to match the mac! so i have a mac and he has a dell wit same specs. prices came out to be the same except i got a fee ipod touch and a printer =] anyways he has taken his laptop to dell about 3-4 times. only recently they told him they aare gona give him a new laptop. and he doesnt use his laptop for more then watching shows online and doing his papers and fb and shit. i use my laptop for video editing, programming stuff, and yea other shit. my comp has not broken down once! not even been frozen yet. deff mde my life so much easier switching to mac.

Re: MAC or PC?

I think it's all what the user needs. I personally use a desktop pc, running that now on Windows 7 Pro (got a full copy ;) ) and I have to say that software is close to genius now. 7 is highly stable, and I've been throwing quite a lot at it recently. I might just buy a mac book as my portable, if I would use it.

And as far as video editing on the Mac and everything...studio producers use different types of software. Plenty use Final Cut for the Mac, while others LOVE Avid for the PC. It's preference, not performance.

care to tell us how you got a full copy???
I got mine from IEEE...I joined their group, and then I got access to their MSDN (it's all the microsoft product suite you can get). I really like 7. It's not clunky, and man...i throw a lot at it.

And there's a reason why I prefer my desktops over laptops...I can build my own desktop successfully. I choose the parts I would want, and I know EVERYTHING that goes on with it :)

Re: MAC or PC?

ive used a mac before (im a diehard PC guy, yes i know how stable mac OS's are) and i feel like it was designed for people who wear helmets when they go to sleep. Computers are gonna crash, have bugs, etc, depending on how hard you ride them. IM A PC AND IM 25

I'd have to agree with you there. Things crash. Nothing is perfect. The MAC OS is soon to be broken down further by hackers. Hackers now see MAC users as ideal people to steal from (due to rich people wanting to get the stylish technology and don't know about protecting their information)...it's only a matter of time before that happens. I've talked to a number of ex-Hackers (due to my job) and they tell me that the exploits int he MAC system will be just as bad as the windows ones were.

And...if you're an engineering student, you generally can get all this stuff from your university's MSDN. FREE.Although, i'm certainly not an engineering student ;)

give windows 7 a shot before you make the switch over... it will run on most currenty hardware and you may find the missing link you've been looking for...
