random post.........

if u could go all girls would u and y???

whats better about bein on an all girls teams?

whats better about bein on a guy/girl team?

what sucks bout either 1?

i definetly think bein on an all girls teams has its benenfits:
1. easy to just talk w/out worryin bout wat u have to say
2. girls more open to listening
3. hate when i have friends who can't join the team b/c there are guys on the team and their parents dont approve of em on a guy/girl team-even though bhangra is not ur social gatherin-im here to look for my future mate gathering-go chill somewhere else if u want that
4. all girls team= show y girls r greatttt and how they can do anything (UBC girlz are amazing they definetly redefined bhangra for girls)
5. u get to share makeup and clothes w/more than just 1 person
6. easier to split responsibilities
7.can do a gidha section-whereas in guy/girl-guys have to leave the stage or u gotta find someway to incorporate them(which is even harder)-then u gotta give em their solo

wats great bout guy/girl team
-ummm ummm u get ur dose of dealin w/a guy and ur daily dose of laughter-and dont have to listen to how ugly some1s outfits was
-ummm wow this list is lackin-ill get bak to it

Parul,

Just so you know...someone will now post the benefits of being on an all-guys team vs co-ed (the list goes on and on for us as well). In fact, most guys teams that have been started are usually the product of pushy girl captains driving their best guy dancers away.

all boys = more fun.

im going to start an all out battle of the sexes. lets go.

What an interesting point made by the guy who played chimta with Orange Bhangra ;) ;) ;)

But after being on both types of teams (all guys and co-ed)...there is a different dynamic.
All guys teams are interesting to be around...fun and games, and lots of hard practices.
Co-ed is kind of a challenge, because members change all the time, but it is quite a learning experience.

I agree with jasmeet. All guys teams are much more fun to be on. You just feel more comfortable, and you don't have to watch what you say all the time (haha). Also, not to sound like an ass, but I feel that the skill level goes way up on an all guys team. Everyone usually has the fundamentals down and picks up the routine fairly well. Hence, the intense practices. Co-ed teams are definately a challenge. From my experience, I think members on co-ed teams become too relaxed and dont take things seriously. Theres much more work to be done. Like jasmeet said, members are always changing and there becomes a complex with so many different styles. Sometimes its harder for new members to adapt to your team's style. Also I feel that members on all guys teams tend to be more committed.

hey i nvr said an all guys team wasnt amazing id rather watch all guys perform rather a co-ed team anyday-get rid of the stupid cutesy stuff......

but co-ed definetly has its challenges... i agree but wat do u mean "guys team tend to commit more"...im sure UBC girls got a lot of commitment to their teams....co-ed teams definetly do lack commitment i agree-no1 wants to stay together-its like a relationship gone boringgggg

and wtf sulmoney u choreo the orange girls bhangra......???????and wat do u mean girls shudnt do bhangra---y notttt is there a problem u got a problem w/girls doin bhangra---if thats how it goes i got a problem w/u doin bhangra, playing a chimta, etc, etc, etc

girls shud definetly do bhangra-u get a different aspect of the culture....guys doin bhangra-represents 1 factor of our culture-the respect and all that guys have to show, how the guys in our culture gotta be strong and all

girls doin bhangra-shows another aspect-how girls keep our culture strong and i think this definetly has to be respected....plus if u dont have girls dancin-then u kill giddha-meaning we just lost 1 aspect of our culture.....

I don't know what kind of co-ed teams you have been on but don't the Empire girls have their fundamentals down and pick-up the routine fast and "fairly well"? Aren't they as dedicated as the guys? 'cuz I know I am as committed as any guy out there. I don't think level of commitment can be related to gender, at least not at the college age.

Can't argue with you about what teams you feel more comfortable on, or which are more fun, or the other things you mentioned, but I just wanted to bring up those two points.

Personally I hope to gain a lot of experience with my co-ed team, but someday I'd also like to try a girls' team. I want the experience of both.

Parul,

don't take those words too seriously...granted you did a great job of defending why girls should be doing bhangra..not to speak for Sulman...but I think he was being sarcastic...obviously he doesn't believe that as someone that has coached a girls team for however many years, and is starting another one (SMD)...Sulman hopefully u will SMD after I defend you like this.

Girls are going to be more comfortable on a girls team and guys are going to be more comfortable on an all guys team. It's about communication and comfort level.

woahhhh i didnt think any1 wud really take it like i was serious- i mean i am serious bout everythin i just said....but i kno sulman is jokin around-mariam told me-plus as a person who choreos an all girls team i dont think he'd make a response like that.....i think its amazing that he choreos and takes care of alot of stuff for the team and is at the same time tryin to teach em how to become independent-they're like ur little kids awwww

but definetly dotn worry i kno he was bein sarcastic.....once the feminist in me is out its out...so i'll just go on writing

lolll, mariam, I am a fan of lots of teams on the bhangra circuit. I only judge a team based on what they perform on that stage. Otherwise, I have no idea what the habits of these teams are. It is not fair to assume that just because a team performs well on stage that their practice habits reflect their performance. it is definately not the case......also level of commitment in some cases can be related to gender for sure. I know lots of girls who only do bhangra for glamour. Not for the love of the dance.

Everyone is going to have their reasons for being on Coed/Guys/Girls teams but it all comes down to how close you are with your team members. From my experiences you can be honest with all guys more than with girls because with guys, its seems like they understand the fact that I am telling them something so they can get better, whereas girls seem more to take it personally. This seems to lead to what some people mentioned that all guys teams practices are hardcore because mistakes are fixed faster whereas with coed teams things usually turn into arguments. But all of this can be fixed with a coed team, if your team chemistry is correct then there should be no problem.

Parul, the list you gave as reasons for being on a girls team in your first post for this topic, I would have to say that most of those things you can do on a coed team too. You might not be able to share cloths with guys but you do have other girl team members...

A good coed team gets along off stage because it shows onstage.

Parul --- I always wonder what "GIRLS" thought of being on a co-ed or all girls.

Last year I did the all girls thing and honestly I loved it.
had lots of fun with them...these girls were eager to learn which made it even better
If i get enough girls this year...I would do that without a doubt.

co-ed -- not too sure. shooting to be on a co-ed this year but had a feel of it
men kinda like to take in charge most of the time -- but i think that is men generally
but with few practices we had, it was fun.
we actually had one guy that refuses to do a co-ed, because of past experiences, which totally freaken sucked -- but worked out for the best

^^enough said ;D so lets stop the all guys and girls thingy

p.s -but if had to pick --- i would say all girls look better on stage ....just because girls tend to do everything :-*
