You either love APD's style or you hate it. Personally, I hate it. None the less, congrats on executing what you do and winning first place.

My concern with this performance is APD does the same thing year after year. Always predictable. Guy standing on another guy's shoulder on one leg, with the rest of the team revolving around him with sapps. 30 seconds later a platform holding up another stunt. 30 seconds later a car gimmick involving a steering wheel. 30 seconds later a gimmick in which one side pauses and the other does a move and vice versa. Lastly a big stunt with one guy climbing his way up.

Once again like I said, i may not be a fan of your style but I respect that you guys do what you love. But if you told me this was Bruin 06, I'd believe it... or Blowout 08...or Fusion 09. Same moves, same stunts, same outfits, same everything. I think it's time you guys challenge yourselves some and do something different. I personally can't watch any of your performances because they are all the same.

By the way, any reason why your dholi doesn't wear a bhangra pugh?

I agree its the same stuff every year
Thank you for your insight. Your agreement will take society a long way! Let the enlightenment begin! So many scholars on BTF these days. Long live academia!

Cockiness and arrogance? Look who's generalizing now.
We work hard for our titles but more over we have a love for bhangra.

Toronto based teams come up with highly innovative ideas. We are also lucky to live in areas with a large population of desis which means we by default get a lot of support.

Too add I mentioned those teams because RPD has close ties with them, especially shaan e.
People offered respectful critiques. I challenge you to find one hateful thing posted in this thread. Your arrogance is displayed by you thinking you determine who is reputable and who is a part of a "random" team. I would never claim that someone else is unqualified to offer an opinion simply because I am unfamiliar with their team or because they have not gained recognition.

You are right in that they bring a different style to competitions. It's definitely a lot different than live or traditional bhangra and I have no problem with that. My biggest thing is they repeat everything over and over. Seems like they've been doing the same exact set for the past 5 years.
You have a valid point, but until the judging rubric allocates points for bringing a new routine from the previous competition or previous season ("season" would need to be defined), APD will continue to bring home trophies. They may not get as much street cred for bringing back crowd-pleasing elements from previous routines with little modification, but their placement at a competition should not be contested based on that sole reason.
I guess you make a valid point in that competitions don't really care if you bring the same routine back. But doesn't APD themselves get bored doing the same thing year after year? Don't they want to do something new and challenge themselves? It's easy being clean and coordinated if you practice the same simple moves over and over. I personally think they take the easy way out, have no originality or creativity.
Didn't you see kinnel's checklist? they added a bunch of more segments that they never did any other year. But APD style will always be APD style. They're the only monkeys willing to risk themselves for these ridiculous stunts and it's their signature crowd pleaser. And with all due respect, PDDS looked like it had the same routine once you guys went live for many years too; that's because you followed the standard segments most traditional/live teams would include.

APD is just following their winning routine and being true to their own style.
lol

Man, the bhangra snobs are in full-effect on this thread for sure...

APD=most successful team of the seaon, period.

APD=Team of the 2009-2010 season, period...

wanna argue NJ? wanna argue sgpd? wanna argue vcu? Look at the rankings, and then form your thought.

The fact that APD placed a lot has nothing to do with the critiques about them.

I agree Harman, the critiques don't change that fact that they owned the circuit this season...so essentially, the critiques do nothing but satisfy the critiquers. APD has a formula that works, no amount of critique will be relevant if they are constantly winning. APD, listen to the critiques when you start to lose, nothing you are doing is unethical or wrong. If people choose to dance strategically and neatly, then they know how to win. Changing choreo every 2 beats and going nuts on stage is too risky. APD is formulaic, sure, but they are also the most successful team out there, so eff it. (Although I agree that you guys need to try some new ideas).

So, you think a BHANGRA ROUTINE must have:

1. a live sher
2. respectfully putting down saaps (no throwing, no dropping)
3. the whole team using khundey at the same time (teams cant split props) - BUT WAIT, THAT DID HAPPEN.
4. a kaato segment
5. no off-beat sound clips (they were on beat with the song, phumania dhol roll was not placed correctly)
6. no variations on phumania ("flying" is a variation)
7. no variations on sialkoti
8. no variations on jugni
9. no stunts during mela

Aight. I'd like to see you tell me what teams you consider doing bhangra according to your definition. Hell, many India live teams don't use kaatos, will use mixed prop segments, throw saaps and do a tower during mela. And it's become quite popular for many folk live teams in North America to do variations on moves like phumania, dhamaal, sialkoti and jugni.

Until then, would you like a side of fries with your order of STFU? :)

1. His sher was off sur - just stating the facts
2. Throwing a shika in a garbage well that speask for itself
3. Kunda split is proper but there should be some sort of sense to it not just hold it for 30 secs
4. Katos arent needed but if your gonna make a check list like that your gonna get a sweet on back
5. phumaniya fine variation is cool not bad at all, but when u fahabad the move. It kilss the aspect of the move
6. sial koti once again variation its proper but you should still stick to how the move is suppose to be done just a tad
7. Jugni has a special meaning to it the moves supposed to bring grace and nakrak to it not kill pigeons flying from above
8. i never said anything wrong agaisnt their stunts i like their half triple stand :)
9. Off beat part well then the gir gra should have been on beat then

as for teams alot of teams are doign it proper. And an india isnt always right. there are so many clubs in india just like here ppl who know six steps open up a club. I re assure u that u will never see khalsa college or dav shoot a shotgun jugni

As for te side of fries i'll take that gladly when you learn what real bhangra is. Don't be sitting here acting like you know everything. Teams that place sometiems that DANCE like this usually place cuz the judges are just as confused as them.

PPL on the panel shouldnt be someone who watches bhangra or follow or danced on a team
it should be someone who understands the art from top to bottom.

So On that note Mr. APD hot dog eater would like a side a fries with your order of know your role? :)

Wow. I think you both need to take a nice deep breath. So why don’t we do that together? INHALE ----- EXHALE!! Now that’s over with ....

At the end of the day APD has a formula to win. They won two competitions back to back in the same month. Like I have said before they were clearly the best of this season.

Obviously everyone critiques a routine differently, the move I think is perfectly executed may seem a little off to you - everyone’s perception is different.

I would like to believe that BTF is a place where teams can receive respectful critique, not a warzone (clearly I’m delusional). The way you (Fookera) initially decided to give your critique was slightly rude and disrespectful to APD. You’re clearly asking for an argument to happen by the way you presented your critique; you could have worded it a little better.
