Artist or Not?

Would you guys rather have a competition committee bring in an artist for the competition or have the committee use that money for the teams?

I know some teams like to have the special guest to see and perform with while others would rather have other things, I wanted to see what you think...

the artist is generally to attract mainstream crowds, not teams. thats why you see a lot of malkit singh, jazzy b, bikram singh, and not pammi bai coming in on a tractor "haan jatt punjabi doston..."

Artist... Unless its Malkit, Juggy, Jay Sean, Bikram, The Sona family(i think thats what they're called), RDB, and some of the other losers that always show up to competitions... If these people are the only options, then its better off to let money rain from the rafters so atleast the crowd can go home happy after the judges screw up again...

Bring a popular artist --> Attract more people --> Sell more tickets [or at slightly higher price] --> More revenue --> More money to teams.

I [as a team] am going for bhangra, I don't care who the performing artist is. I say please the audience, the show is for them not us (competition is for the teams but the overall show is for the crowds yo). Get whoever sells tickets. But if you can't get someone who will pull crowds, then don't get anyone. You could always use some good raas or fusion team as exhibition act to entertain while judges deliberate and such. Or, a GOOD comedian*.

i believe that part of the problem is due to the fact that its easy to get in touch with them is because.... they have their info on their websites and their managers are accessible.

I can't find one website with manager info on Pammi Bai

The audience just heard hardcore bhangra songs for like two hours straight, why would you get Pammi Bai and stuff? These competitions are shows to entertain crowds... I think if you get an artist it should be someone mainstream that would not be in any team's mix. Either some pop-type of Punjabi artist or a non-bhangra artist. I'm just thinking of it from an entertainment perspective.

From the perspective of someone on a team, I would prefer no artist and for them to just help cover expenses for us. If I was just watching for fun, sure I would like to see an artist. But the thing is, most of these singers end up lip synching, and it ends up being worthless.

Plus, having some random singer who most people have never heard of anyway is kind of worthless, because its not like people are going to buy tickets to see Juggy D or Bikram Singh specifically. Most of these shows end up doing just fine as far as filling out the venue goes, so unless you get a good singer who will not lip synch, I saw screw it and give some money to teams.

From an audience members point of view I can say that the last competition I went to over here, we had Juggy D(bleh!) and Malkit(not so bleh!). There was also kulwinder Ghir from "goodness gracious me" (duno if you guys over there know of it) presenting the show so it wasn't so bad,having one performer half way through kinda helped to keep the momentum going as I think just watching 7/8/9 teams performing would get a little long winded for the average audience.

I would love to see Pammi Baii at a show i love his traditionality, his music style and stuff.
But i totally agree with Harman about them lip syncing and they end up being worthless.
Last year at BhangraBlowout14 Manak-E CLEARLY was lip syncing almost all his songs, he was off beat for a few lines i could tell.
But I herd Pammi Baii isn't allowed into the US because he was caught bringing people in illegally i forgot where i herd it but i did

I don't know about other competitions, but at Fusion the official hotel is the Marriot in the Renaissance Center, after the discounted rate it comes out to $109/night, this does not include parking which is $15/night... That is expensive as shit... When I went to fusion this time around, I stayed at a Marriot that was probably 5X nicer and 40 bucks a night cheaper 15 minutes away... Why can't the organizers just provide bus service from a little further out? Is it necessary to stay in the heart of Downtown?

A lot depends on audience as people said.

QC brought Bombay Rockers who were subpar to begin with, and then the audience was mostly uncles and aunties who came for the charity group....so energy was weak and I was pumped so I ended up running on stage (and basically everyone else under 30 + 1 aunty followed).

The reason why was the damn thing ran so late and was so chaotic we just needed an early release before the afterparty.

It's not just the money, don't waste our time if you can't get someone who the audience will like.

Bring a real attraction artist like.. Harbhajan Mann, Preet Brar, Babbu Mann, Harjit Harman, PAMMI BHAI ( I LOVE THIS GUY), MISS POOJA. I mean Miss Pooja came to DC, but for wat, just for a small amount of fans in a crappy restaurant. I mean why not bring the most popular female singer of India to a real competition where nowadays atleast one team has used her song. What a pump up..

Other than that, use the money for the teams ;D

i agree with jap...if you want to bring an artist...bring someone good...i def want to see pammi bai...gurdas mann was recently here..i would like to see him at a competition....and i dont understand why miss pooja came for a small show..every team has at least one miss pooja song in their mix...i think she would put on a good performance at a comp..i want to see Sarbjit Cheema too
