Buying a nagi dhol

Anyone know where i can get a nagi dhol other than dholetc? Cause i dont know if
Dholetc works and i wanna get one of their nice nagis.

Where are you now? Take it slowly and don't take risks too fast or they'll rip you off


My recommendation is this: either get it from India(Ludhiana or Jalandhar)(Joginder Singh Nagi & Sons located at Patiala)(Shell itself or complete set) or get it from Pakistan(no idea about anything)


Not recommended: buying and ordering online

Thanks shiv but idk about pakistan lol, to be honest i was thinking about getting a pakistani dhol but idk if the inside of the dhol is the same as indian dhols

Sorry DholiKhan, I never tried the Pakistani dhols before, so I don't know anything about Pakistani dhols to be honest

I'm not a dhol expert, but 4 years ago I bought a nagi dhol from patiala and a few years later I found a ton of small termites inside which were eating away at the wood and ruining the sound. This summer I bought another one from the same place with better wood (for $50 extra) and it is working quite well.

I would think there is plenty of wood treatment you could do to avoid this though? (at least once you bought it, as a preventative measure)

Yeah I got my new dhol treated to be safe. I guess the first time it was too late to do anything as the wood was already gone. The same thing happened to my friend who got one from India. So it's probably best to treat the wood especially if you're buying a dhol from India.

Is there any way to treat the wood?(in case of an emergency) I got my new taali dhol from Kukki UstadJi

I just did it myself here in the states. I forget what I used exactly, but it was an orange oil type of spray. I think it's working just fine. They did sell me a dhol made of wood that is not favorable to termites, but I sprayed it just to be sure.

In my opinion, nagi dhols aren't that great. i have tried em out and know people who have had problems with it.

Best option is to get it from india, or at jas musicals in england (best if u personally try it) or buy it from someone nearby who has brought a dhol over. Better sounding and better looking.

I got several dhols, and even got a kalli talli dhol from an ustaad, but to be honest, a couple of my nagi's still sound the best to me in terms of my personal preference.

Nagi is a great dhol that beginners move onto. If done properly a nagi sounds and looks amazing. Go straight to patiala and get it from there. Best way to do it.

I have 4 Nagi dhols and each one is a beast. It all comes down to what sound you are looking for (usually determined by the dhol's purpose) and what you do to achieve that sound. I'm going to be rebuilding my best Dhol, which is a Nagi of course, quite soon and I'll be sure to post pictures to show that a Nagi Dhol, given the proper care and tuning, can stand up to any Dhol out there. It's not what you play, but how you play it that matters most. With all that said, have confidence in a Nagi Dhol...but don't jump the gun and buy the very first one you see. Take your time and look for the right drum. You'll know when you find it.

I just wanna add to what he said though, Yeah Nagis are amazing, ustaad dhols are amazing whatever the case is but don't discredit random shells you come across. Just cause theres no name brand or doesn't come from one of the top players in the world, doesn't mean that its not a good drum. I've seen amazing custom drums that people have put together themselves and they top some of these name brand drums out there. So i guess what im trying to say is.... Buy a nice clean barrel, forget about name brands and lights and if its mic'd or not. No ones going to respect a shitty barrel with cracks and holes in it even if it has leds inside and is mic'd, but a beautiful barrel built correctly will snap necks. Bang Bang
