Comp Money..

If a comp lost money do you think they would still pay the winning team? However they paid half and said the other half was lost/missing.... Has this happened to anyone else?

You obviously haven't read about the absolute best competition in Bhangra history - "Desi Dhamaka: Bhangra Allstars" hosted by the one and only - Anil "The Fraud" Prasad.

There have been a few others that I know about, but that's probably the most entertaining if you care to read about it.

The organizers should still consider themselves liable for paying whatever prize money they advertised. It is irresponsible for a committee to say that prize money is lost or missing.

Yes yomamajama! You nailed it - it's the guy who wanted to put on "Bhangra Allstars" (which failed horribly and he never give teams money that they were promised for placing nor reimbursed judges) and then essentially "stole" the registration money for his next competition "Bhangra Blizzard" (not to be confused with the former University of Buffalo competition).

footballforlife - thanks for posting the correct link my friend. I fixed my original post.

Sorry to hear, but like someone said in the blizzard blog, committees of comps have the right to not give back money to placing teams in a timely manner, since it was not stated in the contract, which is bs but I assume that language has not changed for comps that happened after that whole incident. I think the onus should be on the committee to provide placing teams with the money they stated within contracts of those placing within the top 2 or top 3 in their category. The time and money that teams put on for their sets doesn't equate to just putting on a free show for the audience. Also, this might be dumb, but ive noticed this with bollywood dance comps that the committee organizers always have those big checks ready for the top placing teams. I think organizers should do that for bhangra comps as well, provides a clear conscious that teams that place will be compensated based on their performance, and it provides more credibility for comps. I dunno if this already done, but some of the comps I have seen dont really do that, all they do is provide the trophy and gift baskets or watever for the non-placing teams.

Competition organizers should avoid financing prize money through show revenue (ticket sales, sponsorships, reg fees, etc). Prize money should be budgeted for well in advance.

sin city isn't the only comp this year to skip out on awarding prize money to placing teams....

from what i know, the placing teams at MLIB were eventually compensated, don't know the amounts but i believe they all received some money.

Anyone know if furteelay got money from MLIB yet?

lol that's what I was thinking when clicking this thread. I doubt it. :-\

lol that's some wishful thinking
1/5 or 1/6 of what was originally promised, but $200 for winning a competition sounds reasonable! :)

Winning teams were paid out just around six months ago. Also, just to clarify, Furteelay Shokeen was compensated $550. I'm not quite sure where the figure of $200 came from.
I feel like another point needs to be made: never once was it written what the placing teams would be receiving, it was only said that placing teams would be compensated.
I hope this removes any uncertainty or confusion.
