Re: Competition-sponsored liquor/drinking at comps

Dear everyone on their cultural high-horse,

EtymologyThe word Bhangra is believed to be derived from Bhang which is a narcotic substance. Dancing whilst intoxicated or giving the appearance of dancing whilst intoxicated therefore was called Bhangra.

[font=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]The use of intoxicants have always had their unique place in Punjabi Folk Culture, whether Sufi or Bhangra. Who is going to argue now that we're bastardizing a culture that already accepts intoxication as a form of expression in dance? I await the hypocrisy.

No. You can't.

And do the world a favor and don't put innocent people at risk because of your decisions. If you want to smoke, go for it but don't put innocent people on the roads in danger too. Mad irresponsible.
I plan on doing it tonight, thanks.

I know my own body and state of mind at all times, Im smart enough to know when im ok to drive and when im not.. don't need you to tell me what to do even if you think your right.

"Although acute cannabis intoxication following smoking has been shown to mildly impair psychomotor skills, this impairment is seldom severe or long lasting. In closed course and driving simulator studies, marijuana’s acute effects on psychomotor performance include minor impairments in tracking (eye movement control) and reaction time, as well as variation in lateral positioning, headway (drivers under the influence of cannabis tend to follow less closely to the vehicle in front of them), and speed (drivers tend to decrease speed following cannabis inhalation). In general, these variations in driving behavior are noticeably less consistent or pronounced than the impairments exhibited by subjects under the influence of alcohol. Also, unlike subjects impaired by alcohol, individuals under the influence of cannabis tend to be aware of their impairment and try to compensate for it accordingly, either by driving more cautiously or by expressing an unwillingness to drive altogether. [see original for citations]"

that pretty much sums up the feeling, so yeah you can either keep causing a scene which will do you or me no good or you can stop creating attention over a harmless plant that is proved to be the ultimate plant of all plants whether it be medically/food/oil/paper/clothing and pretty much everything in between.

haha because allexperts.com is a reliable source

it's not a abt being on a cultural high horse. we belong to a culture in which drugs and alcohol are HUGE problems. it's undeniable. the only way to move forward is to stop pretending that it's okay to be drunk and uneducated. stop making it okay to justify being a douchebag as being a 'part of your culture'. being in north america, we want to celebrate the beauty of our native culture. the only way we can properly do that and be proud of it is by promoting the good and doing our best to decrease the bad (which includes and is not limited to male dominance, drugs, alcohol, and a lack of social education).

faizan, it's not about bastardizing a pure culture. it's about getting rid of the existing bastardization of an already blemished culture. giving teams alcohol at a bhangra competition isn't the best way to bring positive change to the punjabi community. that money could be much better spent.

How many people cause fights at afterparties because they're wasted? Countless.

How many people cause fights at afterparties because they're blazed? ZERO.

Bhangra comps start handing out dime bags haha

Weed>Liquor because you don't act a fool, you just eat all of the organizer provided free food, haha.

Listen, it is a commonly held belief that the etymology of bhangra includes the word Bhang. All I am saying is that intoxicants are ingrained in the Punjabi culture in a non-negative way. They are seen as a spiritual and joyous TOOL. We all put hard work into preserving bhangra and showcasing it for north america, we're allowed to drink, and i don't think that is a negative for the culture. If people start fights, and bullshit, that's because they are irresponsible, that's not a reason to say drinking should be curtailed.

Weed is "harmless" so long as you are not behind a steering wheel with impaired judgment putting other other peoples' lives on the line. I support the legalization of marijuana and have no issue with people smoking weed in their private lives if they choose to do so.

But when you are driving you are putting more than just yourself at risk. Where I am from "ripped" means you are high. Not mildly impaired, but high. If you think you are fine driving after smoking marijuana I pray to God a police officer pulls you over and stops you from killing yourself or someone else. I hope you never see the effects of people driving while intoxicated or that if affects your loved ones.

The very website you cite clearly states: “Although cannabis is said by most experts to be safer with motorists than alcohol and many prescription drugs, responsible cannabis consumers never operate motor vehicles in an impaired condition.”

?? I dont know why you keep posting.. Im fine when I drive high, trust me on that one.. just let it go

I wouldnt drive if I wasnt in the right condition to, which is why I dont drink and drive.. But I know I am fine when im high, what dont you get? your actling like its the same buzz, its not..
I "keep posting" (even though I only have 2 posts in this thread) because you replied to my post. That is what a discussion forum is- you post, I post, someone else posts, you post, I post, etc. Sorry you are afraid to be challenged on your beliefs.

There is a reason driving while being intoxicated is illegal and why you would be charged with manslaughter if you ever killed someone driving while intoxicated. There is also a reason you get high- it impairs your judgment, vision, psycho-motor skills, etc. If smoking had no effect on you, you wouldn't do it. When you are "ripped" you are not in the right state to drive. I don't care how much practice you have doing it or how careful you think you are- you are putting other people at risk. Even what you cited says "acute cannabis intoxication following smoking has been shown to mildly impair psychomotor skills". How long it lasts is not very significant, an accident can happen just as you pull out of your street.

When a pro-marijuana website you cited clearly states "responsible cannabis consumers never operate motor vehicles in an impaired condition" your argument is weak.

please just look past your self rightous ego on this one and let it go. Dont tell me what to do, Im in control here buddy not you. Your acting like im some kind of murderer when I didnt do anything wrong, your whole idea of the marijuana high is false aswell.. your acting like Im some sort of disabled zombie when Im high when its quite the opposite Im more aware and focused especially when Im driving knowing the conseq. of getting pulled over(this occurs from the paranoia symptom of getting high) , I actually shift gears flawlessly when Im high whereas when Im sober its delayed here n there..

trust me just end this here I dont want to argue when we both know I wont stop because YOU think its wrong.. if I was drinking/driving Id listen to you but not for weed.. and everyone else who has a problem with this please just let it go. Argue and challenge someone elses beliefs please and thanks!

Would you want a doctor to perform surgery on you after blowing kush? I'm sure he is in perfect control too. More aware and focused on working on you. Right. ???

The only ego here is yours, as you are putting your desire to smoke and drive ahead of the safety of others.

Harman, terrible analogy.

High doctor is not equal to high driver. Sensationalizing isn't going to prove your point.

Try, "would you want your taxi driver smoking a blunt before he drove you home." (my answer, as long as he can handle his bud)

Not a terrible analogy.

The doctor has your life in his hands and you have innocent peoples' lives in your hands when you smoke and drive.

If weed makes you more aware and helps you focus as HarmanToor is claiming wouldn't you want a REALLY focused doctor who was just blazing before he operated on you? There is a reason you would be charged with manslaughter if you did kill someone while driving high.

Again- if you are high you are impaired in ways which effect your driving.

This is common sense guys, smoke all the green you want just dont put little kids and innocent people at risk over your decisions.
