My uncle passed away two weeks ago due to complications from a blood infection which he aquired from an infected needle when hospitalized in India. When he initially got sick he had a fungus growing in his brain. After putting him on numerous antibiotics to indentify this horrible thing that was stealing an uncle, brother , father and husband they finally found antibiotics that were fighting off the fungus. My mammaji (uncle) is my moms brother. He had just come from india a year ago with his daughter and wife. He has 3 daughters and a son; the son is in Canada along with one daughter. He brought his other daughter (Manku) with him and left my other cousin ,pardeeppal, in India. They returned to India for Manku's marriage. When he got sick and the doctors told us he was going to die ,we tried frantically to get pardeeppal a visa to come see him one last time.It was denied. As my uncle made a full recovery from his infection things began to look up.Then one day Mammaji is so week he was unable to get up from bed and had not even eaten anything all day. He had a stroke when he was 42 and had lost some funtion in his right arm,ear and leg. This independant man who served in the indian airforce as a engineer for 25 years lost the capability to walk without a cane and had to get a shoe that had a brace coming up to right below his knee.He was taken to the hospital and we were told that the infection had spread to his blood. Again we tried to get pardeeppal a visa to come see her father. We got a letter from the doctor and the mp of delta stating that my mammaji's prognosis was poor. Since Pardeeppals entire family was here in canada, the canadian embassy in india denied her visa saying that they knew she would never return to india if given the chance to come to canada . Mind you my cousin was on a student visa in australia and had returned on time to India AND we offered to sign legal documentation garunteeing pardeeppals return to India. When we thought things could not get any worse..my mammaji aspirated , and his lungs filled with fluid. He had choked on his morning porridge and it went into his lungs. The care aide who was with him did not notice..and when the monitors went off he was given 4 minutes of CPR which he responded well to..but since he was already so ill, this episode worsened his health. As we all prepared for the 3rd time to say a final goodbye to mammaji AND apply for pardeeppals visa..but mammaji bounced right back..and the doctors said that he would make it....this excitement didn't last long..as this soldier couldnt fight anymore.Couple days later his body started to give up and he was put on life support. My mother told him to stop fighting and that she knew he was trying to stay for his wife and daughter. She told him not to worry and to stop putting himself through so much pain. He cheated death 3 times and she knew he could do it a million times for his family..but he was suffering so much. She told him she loved him and asked if he loved her too, he nodded and smiled. We all came to the conclusion that mammaji needed to be taken off life support. The doctors said he would not get better and would never leave his hospital bed and we were prolonging his death. After taking mammaji off life support he was supposed to last 3 minutes..but lasted 4 whole hours with his daughters, son , wife and brothers all around him. Before he passed he said he wanted to see his daughter one last time and that was his final wish. But all he got was a speaker phone goodbye from pardeeppal . Mammaji passed away on the 7th of november. His funeral was a week later. We applied again for pardeeppal's visa..stating that mammaji had passed away and we wanted her at the funeral. DENIED. She missed that too..we tried streaming it for her but were not successful. If any of you guys know anyone or ANY WAY we can get pardeep pal into canada just to see her mother and sisters please PM me. We were in the local newspaper and were contacted by global t.v. The first link is the newspaper article .That is my mother on the right and his wife on the left. The next link is the news aired. My eldest sister and mother are in that link.

Wow thats really sad :( You should def. try writing to your local government because I know when my Aunt was having problems coming to the U.S. The Senate Office in NC helped tremendously. Give your family my condolences. I wish I could help :(

Contact your state senator. Get a written letter from them and let them take it to the head of the Canadian embassy in india, i believe there is one in chandigarh so they don't have to go to delhi either. It worked for someone i know.

Hopefully it works out, RIP.

I heard its usually your member of the House that deals with immigration issues, but try both (whatever the equiv is for the province of BC)

I'm sorry for your loss Amy, may your Mama-Ji rest peacefully.

I don't really know what to say... I don't want to talk dirt about Canadian immigration policies because the important thing in this case is the family, but there's no way for me to touch the subject without doing so..

Most of you close to me know that I have a large amount of family in BC, which is the reason I travel there multiple times a year. This is not the first time I have seen such a case where immigration officials deny a visa for entry because they fear the person will not come back, but at the same time they do this for a reason too... Soo many people are hiding in Canada in an undocumented state taking advantage of free health care and other such benefits. They've even detained me multiple times at the Peace Arch border crossing to conduct what they refer to as "random" security checks...

A recent incident comes to mind... I don't remember the specifies anymore, but you may want to contact the people who held the protest when Canada was trying to deport the undocumented Baba from the Scott Road Gurudwara (I believe)... The day of his deportation, thousands of people (literally) stood protest at the airport (if i remember correctly) and after much pressure, Canadian officials revoked his deportation... This was a few months back, and there was one local organization that stood in front as communicators with the Government and the Media.

Back in August we were able to obtain a visa for a family member in India to finally come to BC after 2 decades of being denied. We had an immediate family member sponsor the person to come into Canada. It worked, as the person in question was given a 3 month visa to enter Canada. Have you tried this yet? Let me know, I have a lot of legal contacts through my Father in law in the Surrey/Delta area, it doesn't hurt to try...

My prayers go out to your family. Losing a family member is no easy thing to deal with, and having worries like this don't help with the coping. I hope you are all doing well.

Because most canadians on this board ( including myself) are too young or have no working knowledge of Canadian immigration policy. All we can offer are our condolences but really cant provide any insight on the situation. Those that could provide a helpful response, did.
