Haha that's gotta be the first (and only?) time someone refers to an NJ routine as "cute"

APD didn't go last year, and with their ridiculous success last season I'd be shocked if they weren't there this year

Any word on judging...same idea as last year of peers judging peers (to a certain extent) or back to more orthodox methods?

I'd say APD should be part of the representation of US West for sure this year.

i dont necessarily think it depends on placings all the time for team selections. remember, last year we saw the return of duniya after so long, and lbc was there after a bit of a lay off. and correct me if im wrong, but i think apd and jawani were both initially chosen last year, but had to turn down the spot for whatever reasons. my picks?

us east: vcu for sure; you have to bring back the local champs, and they have done nothing since then to show that they dont deserve that elite spot again. then you have a tough choice to make amongst the rulers of nyc: aeg, virsa, smd. all have placed consistently at a lot of places, and elite 8 really cant go wrong with either team.

us west: apd can not be denied a spot, and i do hope they can make it out this year. and if we rule out the live teams (heeray, virse de waris), i think you are down to drp and empire. personally, i felt drp's bruin performance was off the charts and was the best of the night, if not one of the most entertaining that i saw that season. but again, drp or empire, you cant really go wrong.

canada east: sgpd and nachdi jawani. its perfect. you have a built in rivalry between these two teams, and many arguments on each side saying that they should have won last year, and i couldnt even imagine what each of these teams would bring to dc to one up their performances from last year, and each other. you have a lot of up and coming teams (nypd, jawani warriors), but these two are the top dogs.

canada west: like its been said, its the toughest region to predict. i am excited to see what jawani brings to idols/boston, so they look like they might be in line for a spot. as for the other, im leaning a bit more towards pcbca. i felt their performance at vibc was the best of that night, and they are a young team on the rise.

exciting. i hope i can make it through this year!

LOL about the wedding vids gurbir

I would love to see a VDW/HPD 12 man music collab to rep US West, but we know thats not how the E8 committee makes its picks for the most part.

Canada West: PCBCA and Jawani
Canada East: SGPD and Warriors or Shan-E
US East: (Given) VCU and SMD (Ladies rocked it this year)
US West: APD and ABC

Agreed that BE did the whole white house and AGT, but you expect 90% of empires routine to be the same as before, after so much repetition it just gets boring.

I'm not sure why you think US East is so hard to pick, Jasmeet. I thought that was the most obvious. The Fall 2010 season has no effect on bids for Elite 8 2011. It's going to be VCU and SMD. Both have proven themselves with trophies and consistency at competitions.

VCU will be the returning champions with wins at Burgh, Blowout, Elite and 3rd place at BBC last year. Consistent. SMD competed consistently and placed consistently with a recent trophy at BAB.

Virsa didn't compete as much as SMD... and "they won first at most places they go to"? Where did this happen?

I think you're forgetting Jasmeet that last year's Fall season had no impact on Elite 8 2010 bids. In fact most of the bids were given to teams privately before some of these huge Fall competitions. It's not about just winning 1 competition. It seems that Elite 8 favours those who have left their mark on the circuit by competing often and placing consistently.

My argument for Empire is that while they didn't do much last season in terms of competitions, they went BIG in terms of doing a performance at the white house and a performance at America's Got Talent. It's stuff like that that promotes bhangra to the general public in a way that even the most successful teams in the circuit can't do.

The rest of my predictions:

US EAST: VCU, SMD
US WEST: APD, EMPIRE
CA EAST: SGPD, NJ
CA WEST: PCBCA, AVA GIRLS
All good points, but then how does PCBCA make it into your list? and how does NJ? PCBCA has competed yes, but i dont recall placings or LOTS of performances (though they are good, don't get me wrong). And NJ hasn't competed since last elite 8. As the slogan says... "What makes them ELITE"... well as of last elite 8, NOTHING makes NJ elite, strictly speaking. Yet overall i still think Canada West is the least predictable because we haven't seen alot come out of there. PANJ, in my opinion, is still the front runner, however because they just have a few recognized performances: All Guys at VIBC, COED at Jashan, and All Girls at Bruin.

I agree with you, US East seems to be the easiest pick but its not clear cut. Virsa had a tremendous season. they placed first at Fever i believe, second at Bayside, and third at masti. A VERY respectable performance. SMD has placings at Fever, VIBC, BAB off the top of my head, plus more performances. I guess its a tough pick to decide which is better, more competitions with a lesser placing ratio, or less competitions but constant placing. VCU is a sure bet. To not invite last years elite, even if they were subpar afterwards (NOT the case with VCU) is sinful.

U.S. west is probably APD/Empire, for all the points previously stated.

Anyways, thats all i really think/have to say until we start getting our once a week videos. Looking forward to it.

NJ did compete, they competed at Masti, but they did a live set, and got second so I don't know how that will be looked upon.

To be honest, I don't think SGPD is that strong of an option for one of the picks from Canada east. Yes I am aware that they did get first place at Big apple however, they had two teams competing at masti. None of the teams from both live and modern categories placed. I wasn't a fan of both their performances at that competition. When it comes to picking Elite 8 teams, I think that consistency is very essential. In my opinion, doing poorly at one competition and great at another doesn't fit into an "elite" status especially in a region such as Canada East where there are many other teams that better fit this status. Just an opinion.
