I'm not sure why you think US East is so hard to pick, Jasmeet. I thought that was the most obvious. The Fall 2010 season has no effect on bids for Elite 8 2011. It's going to be VCU and SMD. Both have proven themselves with trophies and consistency at competitions.
VCU will be the returning champions with wins at Burgh, Blowout, Elite and 3rd place at BBC last year. Consistent. SMD competed consistently and placed consistently with a recent trophy at BAB.
Virsa didn't compete as much as SMD... and "they won first at most places they go to"? Where did this happen?
I think you're forgetting Jasmeet that last year's Fall season had no impact on Elite 8 2010 bids. In fact most of the bids were given to teams privately before some of these huge Fall competitions. It's not about just winning 1 competition. It seems that Elite 8 favours those who have left their mark on the circuit by competing often and placing consistently.
My argument for Empire is that while they didn't do much last season in terms of competitions, they went BIG in terms of doing a performance at the white house and a performance at America's Got Talent. It's stuff like that that promotes bhangra to the general public in a way that even the most successful teams in the circuit can't do.
The rest of my predictions:
US EAST: VCU, SMD
US WEST: APD, EMPIRE
CA EAST: SGPD, NJ
CA WEST: PCBCA, AVA GIRLS
All good points, but then how does PCBCA make it into your list? and how does NJ? PCBCA has competed yes, but i dont recall placings or LOTS of performances (though they are good, don't get me wrong). And NJ hasn't competed since last elite 8. As the slogan says... "What makes them ELITE"... well as of last elite 8, NOTHING makes NJ elite, strictly speaking. Yet overall i still think Canada West is the least predictable because we haven't seen alot come out of there. PANJ, in my opinion, is still the front runner, however because they just have a few recognized performances: All Guys at VIBC, COED at Jashan, and All Girls at Bruin.
I agree with you, US East seems to be the easiest pick but its not clear cut. Virsa had a tremendous season. they placed first at Fever i believe, second at Bayside, and third at masti. A VERY respectable performance. SMD has placings at Fever, VIBC, BAB off the top of my head, plus more performances. I guess its a tough pick to decide which is better, more competitions with a lesser placing ratio, or less competitions but constant placing. VCU is a sure bet. To not invite last years elite, even if they were subpar afterwards (NOT the case with VCU) is sinful.
U.S. west is probably APD/Empire, for all the points previously stated.
Anyways, thats all i really think/have to say until we start getting our once a week videos. Looking forward to it.
