In light of the math fun fact, here's another one: 0.9 repeated is the same as 1.
their is a lot of speculation behind that (proofs that prove and disprove it at the same time)...mainly b/c 0.9 does not equal 1...its said that 0.9999 (repeating) equals 1 and 0.999 (repeating) is not a REAL number so that's one problem...but also i've read that if you go about saying that 0.999...9 is equal to 1, you use the same logic that 1=2...had this in one of my math classes
[/quote]

First, by 0.9 repeated, I mean 0.9999999999.... repeated infinitely.

Here's the easiest proof:
1/9 = 0.1 repeated
(1/9) x 9 = (0.1 repeated) x 9
9/9 = 1 = 0.9 repeated

I feel like there are always people trying to look for proofs to disprove anything that we hold dear. But heck, I'm not a math major. The last math class I took was Diffe-Q frosh year.

In the 70s, I think 71, in Turkmenistan, the ground beneath a soviet rig collapsed, and a crater was made, like 30 feet in diameter, pretty far deep. People escaped out and made it up, but there was a dangerous natural gas coming out from that crater. So they ignited it to stop the escape of that gas. Since then, it has been on fire, and is not likely to be put out. For the past almost 40 years, there has been a giant crater of fire in the middle of a dessert. It's actually beautiful to look at, looks like ones of those diabolic religious illustrations. The people around there are nomadic, so there is not much industry, nothing to come put out the fire or do anything about it. They call it the gates of hell or something, read about it a few months ago

The roar we hear when we place a seashell next to our ear is not the ocean, but rather the sound of blood surging through the veins in the ear.

It cost 7 million dollars to build the titanic and 200 million dollars to make a film about it.

Colgate faced a big obstacle marketing toothpaste in spanish speaking countries.
Colgate translates into the command "GO HANG YOURSELF"

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if a horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of a natural cause.

Stewardesses is the longest word typed with only the left hand.

Every time you lick a stamp, you're consuming 1/10 of a calorie.

A Saudi Arabian woman can get a divorce if her husband doesn't give her coffee.

Clans of long ago that wanted to get rid of their unwanted people without killing them used to burn their houses down - hence the expression "to get fired."

Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time.

Einstein couldn't speak fluently when he was nine. His parents thought he might be retarded.

The very first bomb dropped by the Allies on Berlin during World War II killed the only elephant in the Berlin Zoo.

Only one person in two billion will live to be 116 or older.

Nice find Raju !! Looks cool eh :D

Another random thing ...
In Zimbabwe, there is a series of waterfalls, one of which has this bed of rocks preventing a human from falling over, so at the very edge of a waterfall, where you look down and there's a 300 foot drop, there is literally a slope like wall preventing you from falling over, so you can swim around, lie down there, take videos, look down, and not fall off, even thought the water is streaming pretty fast. It's awsome, really wanna go there

Another thing ....
Hey Canadians ... the Niagra falls is actually kinda pussy.

Angel Falls, in Venezuela I think, is like 10 times taller I think. Some outrageous number like that. The drop is so huge that the water doesn't fall, it turns into mist a few hundred feet above ground. UP was kinda based on that, looked similar, and was in South America

I remember reading about this a while ago, in Norway there's a huge flat rock, really really high up in the sky, you can hike up and just lie down there, look down and it's a few hundred meters

Here's something I remember from physics .... the Earth is relatively smooth. If you take a brand new un used billiards ball and blow it up to the size of the earth, there would be far greater mountains and far deeper oceans.

ok fine, Why are DVD cases large and rectangular but CD cases small and square? The disc on the inside is the same size for both, so why must the box be different?

When DVDs came out, stores didn't want to replace their VHS shelves with new shelves to stack DVDs on, so the DVD manufacturers decided to make a case which is just as tall (but half the width) as VHS boxes, so that stores (like Best Buy or w/e) saved money and space by just putting DVDs on the VHS shelves.

You could also argue that for a DVD there's a lot more information that has to go on the back (plot summary, quotes from movie reviewers, all the credits, fun pictures and stuff etc) but on a CD its usually just the track listing.

Why do women's clothes usually button from the left but men's clothes from the right?
Apparently in Victorian times, women would be dressed by their servant (as in, the servants would put their clothes on for them) so it was a lot easier for them to button on the blouses onto their master if the buttons came on the left, and the buttonholes on the right. Nowadays, everyone puts on their own clothes themselves, but this is just a relic from the past, so women's clothes still button that way.
