if he's lost it that much he needs to retire. i don't buy that running out of gas non sense. there's players 5 years older than him playing the best basketball of their lives right now (grant hill & steve nash) ... if you can't play like the younger version of you, you need to re-invent yourself and contribute or get the hell out of the game. nash plays through a back condition that requires him to lie on the floor the whole game, he plays through tremendous groin pains and plays 110% every given night even knowing they werent playoff bound. kobe is nowhere near is end in my opinion and needs to not run his mouth if he cant walk the walk.
lol, outrageous. So if you lose a step you should retire? It is not non-sense to believe the guy is getting older and can't will a team to victory anymore. The Lakers are not built for Kobe to carry them. Their strength has been their big men. Their big men didn't show up. If you notice Phil Jackson played Kobe a lot less this year, knowing he can't carry them night after night. Anyone who follows ball knows Kobe isn't the same Kobe from 3 or 4 years ago. That is what happens as you get older. Enough with Nash. The guy hasn't willed his team to anything or carried them through anything. And Grant Hill is not playing the best ball of his life. Im a Piston fan, I saw him at his best. Averaging 13/4 isnt' great.

Also, when did he "run his mouth"? Saying "I think we can come back from the 0-3 deficit" is standard procedure. You sound like a Suns fan who is still butthurt over years of abuse and letdowns.
not butt hurt about any losses, we're a team thats never had a real superstar aside from barkley, and seasons for were ended by a bulls team lead by Jordan, cant do shit about that. we've been one of the most consistent teams over the years regardless of winning a championship. and you apparently dont know much about nash because when hes not playing, the suns literally are not able to do anything, simply a mess and non functional. he came back from the mavs to change the team drastically and lead them to amazing seasons. he also is the ONLY pg from your list in a previous post that is in the 50-40-90 club. hes willed them through every god damn game in the regular season with his unparallel ability to create and see on the floor. enough about nash, you know nothing. ill stop on kobe, im biased i cant stand the lakers. done deal.

"You sound like a Suns fan who is still butthurt over years of abuse and letdowns."

LOL.

comparing kobe's state to someone like nash or hill is absurb. yea, nash and hill are playing great for their age , but they are no where near the level of kobe or the have the athletic ability that he does
" if you can't play like the younger version of you, you need to re-invent yourself and contribute or get the hell out of the game."
-also absurb. kobe has definitely lost his step that he had from 3-4 years ago but he is still one of the most prolific scorers in the nba. not many players will continue to bust their asses years after winning championships and throw up numbers he does - which is why he is one of the greatest. i really dont think saying the lakers would come back from the 0-3 deficit is that ridiculous. did people expect him to say " well, all 98 teams in the past 50 years down 0-3 have lost ..soo..i guess were next.." ?? ...of course hes gonna support his team and try to stay positive even if its realistically near impossible to do.

everyone puts so much pressure and intense scrutiny on the lakers/kobe that we all tend to overlook how ON POINT the mavs have been playing. 60 + % FG and 3 pointers?? insane. just some straight up great scoring from the mavs

So you haven't had superstars but Nash is a demi-God? Doesn't add up. Take the best player off any team and they suck. That is basketball. He has willed them through regular season wins and hasn't been able to get over the hump largely due to his atrocious defense. You are biased, a Suns fan who is still pissed the Lakers pooped on them year after year and they lacked the heart and overall ability to overcome a talent like Kobe. And Nash had good players around him, he wasn't on an awful team. He just couldn't take them to the next level.

how many basketball fans do you know that are "objective"? Lol being objective will tell you lebron is hitting his prime and kobe is in his decline. HOW MANY PEOPLE TRULY ADMIT THIS? Noone is claiming lebron has done MORE than kobe, but to hold onto his "actions" of the past is different than DEFINING him because of them. When he wins a championship will people stop talking about him "giving up" against boston? doubtful, because people are NOT OBJECTIVE.

From an OBJECTIVE STANCE (because i'm obviously biased), Kobe HAS lost a step. But he doesnt act like it. Doesnt talk like it. Doesnt admit it. So on our OWN we are supposed to decide to hold him to a lower standard? He's just as arrogant as ever, to believe his team was going to triumph? and did they even PUT UP A FIGHT? no, they were EMBARRASSED. Lol its absolutely not standard procedure. 98/98. 100% is the statistic for teams to lose after going 3-0. Show some humility for having your ass handed to you night after night.

To be perfectly honest, I forget what we're arguing about now though haha

Remembered the starting argument:

Bottom Line, in this second round, Kobe promised more. Kobe claimed to be more.

And he fell flat. Without a spark, fight, or drive that we are USED TO SEEING IN KOBE BRYANT.

When this happened with lebron, everyone claimed he quit. I do not se emuch of a difference in what happened to the lakers, except for the fact that they have an even better equipped team and still failed worse than the Cavs, who at least went to 7 with boston.

As long as I've watched basketball, the closest i've ever seen ONE MAN taking his team to a championship is Lebron James. I dont know what else people expect.
You haven't watched basketball for more than 10 years? AI took his team single handedly to the finals in 2001, and even took a game before going out. LBJ had good games against the pistons and then got swept against the spurs...

The amount of hate on Kobe is sad right now. Lol Lakers lose and haters have a field day. He's logged more than 40,000 minutes on his legs boys, this isn't a video game. He's still great, and he wasn't talking much shit. He came out and said "I think we can win it". It doesn't matter what he says though, there's plenty of haters that have no lives out there to call him out on anything he says.

Navkarn, you legit made me LOL. Kobe's lost a few steps, so he should retire. That's ridiculous. You could see Kobe lost a step after 06/07. And you can see how his game changed. His post game in 08 and 09 was impeccable. In 2008, he facilitated like a beast and that two dribble turn around post jumper was money. If you're saying he should retire, then you might as well tell the Celtics to retire(they're great but according to your reasoning, they should retire) along with some of the Spurs. Jason Kidd hasn't been as effective as people call him to be. Should he have retired this season as well? Grant hill playing the ball of his life? Not by a long shot lol.
Kobe was effective in his team getting into the playoffs. They wouldn't have been a 2nd seed without him. Nash/Hill couldn't even get their team to be an 8th seed. THEY should retire before anyone tells Kobe to lol. And you were talking like Kobe doesn't play through injuries. The man doesn't even walk straight because of that ankle, his fingers aren't of normal shape or feeling, and he still didn't miss a single game. 92 games in his 14th year. I bet you the number of players at that point in their careers playing a full season at 30+mpg is very short.
40,000 minutes logged. Show me 5 players who played at this level after playing 40,000 minutes.

I have no rooting interest in the Lakers or Heat. I hate them both. And I can see that Kobe is at the end of his career and Lebron is in his prime. Kobe is a great winner, Lebron is not. Kobe didn't give up- he was physically gassed. Lebron gave up mentally. Those are facts.

No athlete will ever admit they lost a step. To expect him to step to a podium and say "yes, I am officially slowing down and no longer the player I was" would never happen. No great player would ever say that. You can bet your ass Lebron wont either. And it is absolutely standard for a player to say "i think we can overcome the deficit" regardless of the situation. The Red Wings were down 0-3 and all of them said the same thing. Did Kobe say anything cocky after they lost? He showed plenty of humility and called out Odom and Bynum for their cheapshots.

Ah yes, those great Suns team with 0 titles. Just admit it, you are jealous of the Lakers. Hold onto Nash as your savior, ignoring how awful he is defensively and how that terrible D was the downfall of the Suns year after year even though they had all the talent they needed. If you are comparing Nash to Kobe you are delusional.

All the years the suns ended Laker runs? Twice in the past 10-15 years? Both times Phoenix was a 2nd seed and the Lakers were a 7th seed. Big upset!!! And there's no need to make injury excuses. We've all faced those. I'm not over here complaining about Malone in 2004.

Kush when's the last time you saw a superstar admit to losing a step? And I don't know how he's acting like it. You don't see Phil yelling at him. He's listening to the coach. He's still being a leader. His shot selection has never been great. He took bad shots when he was 24, he takes bad shots now when he's 32. I don't see a drop off in his shooting performance. He's been right at his career average of 45%.

The team is losing, lets blame it on him. The team is winning, lets give credit to Pau/Lamer/Bynum. There's no way this guy can win in your books is there?

I'm just saying that He talked big and didnt even come at 50% of himself! why must that kobe bashing? i have high expectations of him. when he does tremendous work, i give him credit

You said he's lost more than a step but you still expect him to be the same Kobe he was in the playoffs from the past? He just ended his 14th season and was putting up numbers comparable to Wade in the regular season. He's physically exhausted, it wasn't too hard to see. And losing isn't because the Lakers didn't show up. If we played decent ball, we still would have lost. Dallas played phenomenal basketball, a lot of the 3's were contested and still splashed in.
He didn't talk big, talk big is saying "I guarantee a 4-0 comeback". He said "I think we're gonna win it". There's definitely a difference between the confidence/humility in those two statements. And after getting swept, he gave credit where it was deserved and applauded Dallas' efforts during his post game interview.
He showed up for the game, and gave a shit load. 6/8 in the first quarter, while the team was 2/11. That's the story and that's how it rolled out. He only played around 6 minutes in the second quarter so obviously he's not gonna score as much. When the offense is running, its much easier to perform. When you're playing 1 on 5, you don't win unless you're Kobe in 2005/2006. Then you can outscore a first seed Dallas 62 to 61 in 3 quarters. He's not the same Kobe lol.

sure thing. call it what you want. so long as he realizes he was in fact "sick in the head" for thinking it, i'm cool with it. Confidence, cockiness, whatever.

To get back on RELEVANT topics... you know, since the Lakers are no longer relevant this season...

Heat in 5. Bulls in 7. OKC/Memphis is anyones guess, shits nutty out there.

This okc/grizz game is awesome. I'm glad the grizz won that first series, or this series would have been mad boring.

EDIT: Who the hell is Grevis Vasquez?
