My biggest pet peeve: when teams suck.

I hope that only applies to guys. Unless you're into that type of stuff, Faizan!

wat honestly ticks me off is wen ppl start to act out the song
da last time i cheked, it was called a bhangra rotuine and not no drama act
so keep it traditional please :)
Don't you ACT out the MELA scene in the beginning? In my opinion, there is a presentation/acting/expressive element to bhangra. When you dance and have expressions to a specific song lyric, you are essentially acting to that song. For example, Sher does a kickass job with showing personality on stage while making it seem they are presenting the song, not just dancing to the song. I'm sorry this ticks you off, but this is a plus for me.

I say we concentrate on things teams can work on and are more or less universal (ie: when teams go to competitions hoping to find someone at the competition to tie all of their paagris and not preparing to do it themselves), not on basic opinions like "modern bhangra is a pet peeve" or "going live is boring". There are many different styles of bhangra, let's not argue which is right or wrong.

cockiness in bhangra. Why is anyone cocky about bhangra? Sure we compete. But bhangra is a happy style of dance. Bhangra has a tone of excitement and joy. Not a tone of im better than you. When we discuss bhangra on btf or in person, we all should have a sense of camaraderie with each other and not provoke one another.
Yup, some teams & team members def need an ego check. This is bhangra and we are all promoting the same culture - everyone just relax. I've seen a lot of senior teams act like they're GOD in front of junior/up & coming teams. The next time you see your team members acting like they're the sh*t, give them a fresh slap across the face and remind them they're just a bhangra dancer and not God's gift on earth.

wow, thats not being harsh at all. bhangra is a presentation of an art form, and does NOT always have to competitive in manner. sure there are good teams and bad teams, some are new to bhangra, some aren't, but the fact of the matter is that an inexperienced team may "suck" in your opinion, but may have come a far way in terms of themselves. does a brand new team from state X suck compare to VCU? yea prolly. does PPA suck compare to Khalsa College? in my opinion, yea they easily could. u cant make baseless remarks like that unless u state who/what ur basing ur opinion on.

anyway, my biggest pet peeve: Not smiling during the entire performance, or getting tired halfway through and losing the smile.

honestly what i hate the most is when people sing along with their mix during a performance. If you're going to maybe mouth one or two lines thats alrite but some people go all out and act like their yelling the lyrics on stage, this also causes them too have the worst facial expressions. I was watching BBC on sahara one and it was up-close so you could see everyone's facial expressions, i don't want to name names but some people were just mad annoying. It's almost like they want to show off that they know the lyrics to the song. when i see someone doing this i don't look at them for the rest of the performance lol

*shivers* I believe BU Bhangra is one if not the only culprit at BBC. I was front row and it scared the shit out of me. I hope they refrain from it next time.

Yeah I think cockiness is a really bad thing for bhangra teams but....

I think my biggest pet peeve is not with the bhangra teams, but in general the audience(Teams and crowd). I think no matter what should happen you should show respect for the performers (be attentive, respect the art-form, etc) and not boo, say things like "We want KJ"(from a previous post), and in general being courteous during a performance. I think for example teams and audiences should still cheer with enthusiasm even if the dance did not meet their "standards" because of the time, effort, and energy that is invested in making these dances. I think even if teams don't place, they still deserve respect (Unless they really do something repugnant/idiotic) and thus should be commended.

Just my two cents.

When people videotaping the performances go absolutely crazy and scream at the top of their lungs literally every five seconds (cough SGPD Masti cough), I wish I could see a dubbed version of that vid, its one of my favorite performances.

1) When you accidentally break a prop on stage

2) When certain dancers "forget" to wear boxers underneath their chadra

3) When the turla looses its maava.. and hangs in front of your face (NOT COOL)

Agreed! And the first tape of B2B @ Idols was the WORSTT, you could barely hear the mix thank goodness jason dubbed over itt - or else you had to watch on mute!

using pipes as khundey
When teams use pipes not because they couldn't afford khundey but because pipes are lighter and are easier to dance with.
