Join us as 5 Raas/Garba Teams and 5 Bhangra Teams compete in the Ultimate, one-of-a-kind, Raas/Bhangra competition! A total of $6000 will be given away that night with 1st and 2nd place winners awarded in BOTH Raas AND Bhangra categories.

Raas Rave & Bhangra Blitz (R2B2) is an intercollegiate Raas/Garba and Bhangra Competition hosted by Southern Methodist University's Program Council. Now in it's 4th year, the R2B2 Committee is truly excited to expand the outreach of this event beyond the scope of dance and toward more cultural and philanthropic awareness. Hey Bhangra Teams!
Raas Rave & Bhangra Blitz is coming up in February 2009. Our application deadline is not for another week and we are still looking for interested bhangra teams to compete in our 4th annual competition!

R2B2 will be on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the beautiful McFarlin Memorial Auditorium on the Southern Methodist University campus in Central Dallas, Texas.

We are still an up and coming competition and we sincerely encourage all teams to apply. This year, we?re truly expanding the scope of our event and we?d love to show y?all a bit of our southern hospitality.

Financial aid is available. Currently we are working very closely with American Airlines and hotels around the area to provide you the best possible deals and potentially subsidize a portion of team traveling costs.

Due to feedback, the fact that most colleges and universities are in the midst of finals, and the extent of interest expressed in R2B2 by various bhangra teams across the country

Bhangra teams wont come because when they lose to RAAS teams, they become the butt of every joke rightfully so until we determine that the judging sucked and there was no way that a raas team could have won, then we all come to a consensus that garba and bhangra should not be judged on the same level and the topic dies in about 3 days...

Hey Vick, I think you may have read incorrectly, but I'm pretty sure the two dance categories will be judged separately. That is how it was done in 2008 and 2007 anyway. Prizes are $2,000 for 1st place team in Bhangra category & $2,000 for 1st place team in Raas category. 2nd place teams in the aforementioned dance categories get $1,000 each.


R2B2 is a great small competition in Dallas; I wish the competition organizors the best of luck! I look foward to attending in February.

Note: I think the competition organizers should get in touch w/ the texas showdown bhangra competitoin and ask their judges to be the judges here..the judging there was very fair and all the judges were knowledgeable...

if u organizers want ur comptitoin to be very successufl and fair u shud def get in contact w/ them or else ull get ripped apart on here..just lookin out for ur comp!

I agree with Gagan, judges are not the best at this competition.. especially considering the same judges have to judge both raas and bhangra teams!

If you're a highly traditional team from out of the TX area, I wouldn't think about applying since this is more of a "modern" competition. It's basically who can provide the most entertainment to the crowd while throwing out a clean, creative routine.

I disagree with Justin (muqabla89) in that they should colaborate with Texas Showdown to get their judges for the mere fact that this competition is targeted toward a totally different crowd. The majority of people that come to this competition are just there to be entertained and nothing else... why would hardcore bhangra fans come to a Raas + Bhangra competition... especially when a bigger bhangra-only competition like VIBC in around the same time? Also, they are primarily a regional competition, while Texas Showdown has intentions of being a national based competition.

I do agree that they need better judges for this competition though.. or at least have seperate judges to judge each particular dance.

If you want me to take you seriously and discuss this competition with you in a professional manner, please be respectful. Keep in mind, you are not only respresenting yourself, but are also representing your team on BTF.

I don't understand how your statement: "i mean that they should figure out frm them some decent judges for the bhangra category" differs from mine: "I do agree that they need better judges for this competition though.. or at least have seperate judges to judge each particular dance." Once again, let me restate that I agree with you that they need better judges (especially for the bhangra category) and I don't feel there can be universal judges that can judge both Raas & Bhangra.

I have no idea why Texas Showdown was brought into this, but like I said, both R2B2 and Texas Showdown cater toward different audiences. R2B2 has been around a lot longer than Texas Showdown, so I'm sure they know how to run a competition. The bhangra teams that come to R2B2 know that it is not a primarily traditional competition, they know what types of teams that apply based on the past lineups, and if they have any questions on judging.. those should be asked before applying/competiting. You mentioned "i meant that this competitoin shud talk to texas showdown ppl im speaking specifically for the bhangra category so that there is fair and accurate judging." Sure, they could talk to Texas Showdown to figure out how to judge the bhangra competition side better, but you do realize that this competition will never have "fair and accurate" judging when both of these distinctly difference dances are grouped together and judges are asked to judge BOTH. Teams that are applying to R2B2 should know this simple fact and if they don't, they should realize it fairly quickly.

If you haven't noticed, I'm from Texas and have seen the progess of both of these competitions from when they first started. Obviously Bhangra & Raas fans in Texas will go (as the SMU campus crowd serves to be the primary audience), but when did I mention Texas people? I said "why would hardcore bhangra fans come to a Raas + Bhangra competition... especially when a bigger bhangra-only competition like VIBC in around the same time?" I didn't mean Texas fans, I meant people wanting to come spectate this competition in general (like people go to VIBC to experience that competition).

we can argue all day abt this...but the fact of the matter is that it is my OPINION that they shud get judges..thats why i brought texas showdown's competitoin into this..stop making it a big deal..lol..judges shud be for separate categories..not for both...lol..im not gona continue further w/ this b/c im gona end up going nuts..but ill see you in texas in february buddy,.take care and happy holidays
