but the nakhreh was severly lacking, esp from some of their veteran, experienced dancers, the guys specifically

Blue jorhi is the only one where both guys were maintained smiles. Half of yellow looked tired 3 mins in, and red, though energetic, one was never smiling. seemed bored.
This also really tempers my excitement for the performance. With such a closeup we can see how the dancers (especially guys) looked out of it from the start. I didn't really see any enjoyment from the dancers sustained in the routine.

I just want to say, thanks for using Tinie Tempah in your mix, that made me VERY VERY happy.

this is why i love VCU they come out give us exactly what bhangra is. No watered down moves pushups/hiphop just bhangra. I love them for it !

The gimmick was wicked big ups to all teams that joined in it speaks volumes about there class !

for the collegiate teams out there, vcu can be had this year. A lot of this routine just looks like recycled moves from the past 2 years. That's one thing where you see a team like SGPD who constantly bring something new to every routine, vcu just looks content doing the same stuff over and over again. shorter dude in red killed the entire set, sick job. really interested to see what happens at blowout this year.

VCU took the stage like true champions. I absolutely loved their tribute to the other teams. It was a nice gesture and showed their sportsmanship and ability to appreciate their competition. I think they again gave a great performance and closed out the show really well.

I don't even know what it is about VCU, but they're always entertaining to watch. They have so much spirit and grace that it makes the whole set look really great. I have nothing but respect for them and really think they did a great job this year. Not winning does not mean they aren't champs. I heard someone say that VCU fell off of its throne, but I can't agree with that statement. They brought their A-game and delivered their performance, from beginning to end, like winners.

As usual, SRK murdered the entire set. The man can do no wrong.

VCU has a great, distinct style that is sometimes perceived as repetitive and unoriginal, but I really just think that that is their signature. They've found their niche and continue to work it. My whole take on this issue can basically be summed up with: Why fix what's not broken?

there's a huge difference between having a distinct style and being repetitive. vcu from 09 was veryyy different in terms of folkness to vcu 10. but this year, at burgh and elite, it just seems like they're using half of both and calling it the vcu 11 style. no question, they've owned the collegiate (and to an extent the co-ed bhangra circuit) for years now, but if there was ever a year that they can be beat, it is unquestionably this year, and i know for a fact many of the collegiate dancers who were at elite felt the same way.

Wait, really? I'm reading these comments on this thread and I keep re-watching the video to see if I watched another performance accidentally.

This was a good set, but a very poor VCU set. First and foremost, the only real X-factors in this routine was the entire theme of bringing back other team's signature moves. As Faizan pointed out in the result's thread, that's NOT sportsmanship, it's an attempt at creativity. Even calling it a tribute is stretching the truth since the entire routine is based on bringing back awe-factors of other teams to gain wow-points with the audience. (I'm sure the teams don't feel necessarily more loved than usual, you brought back stuff for EVERY team.) It was a creative idea, but unfortunately it was poorly executed (random people running in and out draws attention away from the actual dancing) and there really were no other X-factors in the actual dancing other than that. The "theme" unfortunately made the performance look devoid of the VCU style, swagger and gimmicks that we've come to love that undoubtedly gave them an edge last year.

And then there was the execution! We've come to know that VCU execution and stage presence as a level above the rest of the collegiate circuit. But as said before, dancers weren't smiling and the routine wasn't as crisp as it was expected to be. Formations weren't as clean as they needed to be so the vast majority of formation mechanisms were completely lost in appeal. It seemed that a lot of the VCU ideas just got recycled into this one which was a major let-down too. I know you guys have some new dancers, but as an observer and lifetime fan of VCU bhangra, the chemistry and magic of the jodis seemed completely lost too. (ie: Sheel/Shreya, in jhoomer, last year = ORGASM) And the ending with Joker of bringing back everyone back on stage was obviously expected so that was disappointing too (last year's ending still sends chills down my spine). Overall, a good bhangra set. But a disappointing VCU set, especially for Elite 8. :/

+1 to everything kinnell just said. i've watched the video multiple times now and this set just does not come close to anything this team has done the past 3 years. also, rishab destroyed this set, watch this and the burgh 4 set and he's far and away the most COMPLETE dancer on the team. but please vcu, let's see something new and original for blowout/bayside
