Totally understood, but I mean it's not something to get all crazy about. The girl sitting next to me went all WWII on me because I said I'm Indian..I kind of got scared =(Nikhil said:I would have to say it's because of the controversial history, the birth of both India and Pakistan featuring much bloodshed over the region that is Punjab, has lead to many people referring to themselves as being isolated from both countries but exclusive to the region that holds the best qualities of both nations (Punjabi).
I'm indifferent about it because a) I'm Gujarati, b) I consider that to be proud of where you come from, because at the end of the day that's what it's about.
WWII eh? Was she German?kiddan morniye said:Totally understood, but I mean it's not something to get all crazy about. My fault. This is just as crucial, if not more, than what happened during partition. You're exactly right about the feeling of alienation.COMTONDAJATT said:some punjabi kids outside of india have a different conception of their identity and heritage because of 1984. usually their families were hit hard and lost people and for that they feel alienated from indians/hindus/indian government and in a way to rebel they try to lose their 'indian' identity.
exactly what I was about to say, Mate.COMTONDAJATT said:some punjabi kids outside of india have a different conception of their identity and heritage because of 1984. usually their families were hit hard and lost people and for that they feel alienated from indians/hindus/indian government and in a way to rebel they try to lose their 'indian' identity.
I don't get offended.. I agree with Yankee that we have our own identity but ain't that a little racist or stereotypical. The broad picture is that most of us are Indian!Yankee Saini said:I just hate the damn Indian Gov't. :-X but i' don't mind being called an Indian; however, i rather be called Punjabi than Indiancos we have our own identity. ;D
