This kinda stuff takes experimenting, if you don't know something like this all you have to do is grab different shit and try it haha. But don't be afraid to ask if you don't understand or aren't certain. Idky someone would get frustrated on a forum..... pretty sure these things were ment for...
Thats true but if the crack doesn't run the entire way down then you'll be fine as long as you get clear wood filler and just use it to hold it together. But thank you, appreciate it haha, glad you liked em
listen to tirikits that are online on youtube and just try coming up with your own. Theres a certain flow to that filler that if you grasp once, you can create many different variations ontop of it.
If you sanded the paint off of your drum you woulda been able to tell what kind it was. If you're not looking for an ustaad dhol then you can go to any corner of any city in punjab and you will find a dhol shop. The deeper you go into punjab the more shops you will find. And he prolly doesn't...
13.2 would work but it might be just a slight too big. i have a 13.2 desi head on my drum and im using a rim cut out from an old remo 13 inch to fit it and its a little small so i can only imagine the other way around would be a little too big? best bet would be to find a used remo drum head...
Yessir thats the one i use for my dhol in my videos and i positioned it relatively close to the dhaga side (prolly not more then 4 inches from the dhaga skin to the tip of the mic) and i don't have it angled at all so it is parallel to the dhol basically. I love that mic and i actually replaced...
Thats most certainly amb, any other kind of wood has a much darker look. Also the brown stuff is masala that is used to seal up cracks or dents, they use it its kind of like Bondo for dhols lol.
Your best bet would be to get a kaali taali shell from india or pakistan and just have it fitted or fit it yourself. And also i know alot of people use the SM57 mic for their dhol but i prefer the audixD2.... its a little more then the sm57 but its worth it.
Lol if you find someone selling a REAL kaali taali dhol for 300 with a mic and quality heads please let me know i will buy their entire stock. A pure kaali taali shell you might not even find for 300 lol. Plus when you put a mic in expect atleast 150-200 dollars ontop... think about it the mic...
Its not the difference in sound, its how well you can keep it tuned. Tuneing a drum head that is bolted requires constant tightening, while with string, you can easily loosen up the skin so you don't have to tighten as much the next time you use it. Pretty simple
I wish i was in that crowd to experience the crowd reaction to that ending.... sent shivers down my back at home, i can only imagine what it must've felt like at the venue.
Incredible performance, as always =]
One of the barrels i have is the same as that one, best way to check for cracks and stuff is to open it up and look on the inside. Shine a flashlight in and look carefully, if you see theres any major cracks then obviously don't sand it, if you don't see anything too major you can sand it down...
warm water, not too hot, but a warmer then room temperature
and you find the knot thats holding the tension of the rope, un do that knot, take all the rope out (pull from hole so it seperates), then for the tilli side, untighten all the bolts till the head comes off, then on the inside there...
Masala from the Dhaga side:
1. Unrope your dhol and take the dhaga skin off
2. put a little bit of warm water on the area where there is masala to soften it up.
3. once it becomes soft, take a knife/blade/screwdriver/chisel and slowly scrape it off, makesure not to pierce through the head...
