here are first place teams in the past few years

DDA 2008 - Davis di dynasty (went all live)
DDA 2007 - Gabroo Punjabis (went all live)
DDA 2006 - Gabroo SHokeen (went all live)
DDA 2005 - Phulorida Bhangra (ummmm ok maybe not)
DDA 2004 - Gabroo Shokeen (went all live), no wait I think it was UBC girlz

...........needless to say, this comp is very traditional and going live is definitely a plus.
I love how first place always goes to an all live team by default but 2nd and third place can be for completely opposite modern teams. That has been the trend for at least the past 3 years with DDA right?

Waleed, DDA is the oldest and probably one of the most traditional competitions out there. They dont separate categories like modern and traditional like many canadian competitions do, but they are definitely very traditional. A live team usually does well at this competition if not almost always come out with a win.

I wouldnt really call it a "traditional" competition as last year most of the teams were modern lol but deff one of the funner comps to compete at and it is organized very well.

One think about DDA is that they never have any artists there, which is nice change from every other comp. trying to promote the show based on a singer/MC who comes on for like 30-45 mins. This competition pulls the crowd by centering on the Bhangra alone...oh, and a sicc AFTERPARTY! haha

hahaha its actually a REALLY traditional comp. Last year you had Davis (all live), Panj, Heerey, Punjabi Beat, and Im sure there were some other traditional teams. Then, as exhibition you had a 10 minute jhummar gidha from gabroo shokeen and the exhibition team was Berkeley di tohar (traditional). Id say thats pretty traditional if you ask me. But yeah there were a few modern teams.

Guys i think vcu will be first becuz each of their dancers dance with the exact same style and with the same energy..
nachdi tho u will see a difference in the dancers so i think they will get third like vibe...heeray either first or second...

That is a good point. Definitely in NJ some guys tilt their heads and do more nakhra/show more jhalak than others - however I observed that this is true of VCU as well! The red dancers (usu. I guess that would be Benny and Surmeet) always have a little more spark/attitude/nakhra than the others. They tilt their heads and torsos more when they do turning moves and flick their heads more. So that can be perceived as a different style or "Non-uniformity" so it can go both ways.

I am confident that if the judges are legit, NJ and VCU will place. However the third team I'm not so sold on HPD - though they will bring it big time, I hesitate to discount DRP and Toronto Elite - who knows what they will muster up...so third is still undecided for me. Keep in mind this is DRP's breakout performance of the year (if i'm not mistaken - first comp since Bruin in May, right?? seems like long time) so you know they'll come out swingin

from what i heard alot of TEB dancers are ex-NJ dancers...so if thats true then TEB will have to be in the running for placings. but you can't discount NJ cus they had the juniors filling those empty spots and we all know the depth NJ and Punjabi VACA has.

i don't think heeray will play against these other all guys teams. not to say that heeray isnt good, they're very solid in choreo and synch, but for me they don't seem to have that ex-factor or hype/aura that other teams bring with them such as NJ or VCU brings.

i think it will be very hard to predict the placings for this comp, but nonetheless

1. VCU
2. NJ
3. TEB

but TEB remains the wild card that can bump up if they can distinguish themselves from other toronto all guys teams.
