What's your Bhangra story?

Hey guys, I was just wondering how some people got into bhangra. For me, my parents forced me and it turned out that I loved it and now they want me to quit because I live and breathe bhangra ...lol. So, whats your story? Friends? Getting fit? Just for fun? Wanted to try something new? etc?

i used to try to dance, never was good at it, i had like 2 cousins in kj, and over time, watching vids on youtube and going to melas, just started dancing at home, years went by n stuff, then got togethor with some friends and started a team, now my dad is pissed off, cuz i have team mixes playing all day hhaa

The story of my life.. Mom got me involved when I was younger and I never wanted to dance. Now that I do they hate it and want me to stop lol.

Broken record already but, mom basically forced me into dancing when I was young. It took me a year, but then I really started liking it, and then I loved bhangra. Unfortunately for me, I didn't pay attention to my body and I've had knee problems for a long time now, so I had to stop. But my parents are generally supportive, and I love doing jhoomer with my mom at parties, haha. <3 bhangra

a girl on my freshman floor wanted to go to a bhangra workshop and asked me to come for moral support. She ended up being horrible while I made my school's team and I've been hooked ever since. guess happy accidents happen every day

Used to dance at parties etc, like all punjabi's do. Fresman year of college met a guy from PAU Bhangra, became friends and now he's like a brother to me. Learned bhangra from him, starting with the very basics. Did diwali and vaisakhi mela's for a couple years. And senior year of college finally started a team for the college that I hope will go long way. And like everyone else, parents were supportive at first and then wanted me to quite. Bhangra has always been and will always be an important part of my life 8)

i was never really into bhangra till about 2 years ago wen my massi who danced for 3d wanted to teach me nd my cuzins how to do bhangra so i was lik ok im down to learn and from that i danced with a high school team for one performance nd then my massi left 3d and made capital so i danced with capital and then our team broke up becuz ppl had other priorites and now im dancin with virse de waris and went to masti with and performd with heeray

sick thread - my best friend's older brother was a co-founder of DRP, he showed me the first bhangra tracks i'd ever heard like Shera Vargi Jaan and Sohni Lagdi by Shinda when I was in middle school...got me totally hooked to DRP and People's Bhangra videos, I was like flippin out they did Human Jumprope and shit - and then I saw KJ and Sher and LBC and Empire and got even more intrigued...had never danced at all in my life so i thought why not take a chance and tried out when i got to college...one of the older dancers told me to do lalkaare in the tryouts even if i was dancing really badly, which i was, but i did those and got in and rest is i guess pretty historical

had been goin to bhangra blowout since i was 12, and always thought, mann how cool would it be to dance on a team when iiii got to college? listened to bhangra music, did a couple dances with friends for lil events here and there in HS- tried out and made it freshman year of college- and its been loveee ever sinceee.

Went to Bhangra Idols 06, saw VIBE on stage and walked away from the comp knowing that I wanted to do bhangra. Printed out flyers put them around every university/college, started PANJ.
